The importance of Devine or Gyabi

Watching argyle under foster ( especially at home ) has been frustrating..we don’t seem to have the tools to break teams down ..we look fairly solid at the back , ok in defensive midfield and we know we have goal scorers..what we’re lacking are midfielders who can travel with the ball …azaz and cundle have left a huge void in this side . Not so much for their goals and assists but for their ability to travel 20 yards up the pitch with the ball at their feet and force one of Whittaker s markers to leave him and go to the ball ..I don’t actually think Whittaker necessarily out of form , we’re just not giving him the ball in the right areas at the right time …without ball travelling midfielders we’re gonna be very easy to defend against.

The only two players in our squad who can play that role seem to be gyabi and Devine..gyabi was excellent at Middlesbrough as a no.10 and Devine has shown in glimpses(Blackburn away,Cardiff at home) that he can be a good ball travelling midfielder.

I think one of them hitting some form in the remaining games could be the key to us staying up

Yes it would be great to see Gyabi perform at Home Park like he did at Middlesbrough, along with the whole team ( albeit Morgs a bit quiet)….
but isn’t he injured? “Gone to see a specialist with his groin injury”

Yeah last update was that he is injured. I presume we will know more either tomorrow or Thursday

Agreed, would be wonderful to see Devine in particular take on a creative mantle. I think it's possible with some confidence and lots of attacking work on the training ground.

Wasn't Gyabi due to see a specialist about a groin issue? I would be concerned that such problems might take a few weeks rather than a few days to resolve. I hope not. Absolutely agree that we need a ball carrier in midfield. COYG!

I’d like to see a return to the 433, giving us a less flat, more dynamic midfield.

Something like…

Cooper
Mumba, Gibson, Galloway, Sousa
Forshaw, Houghton, Devine
Whittaker, Hardie, Bundu

Mayor in his prime would be very useful right now
Do me a favour, you'll be telling us we're missing Grant and Cosgrove next.

Mayor's prime years were mostly in League 2.

However, I think at his best, Carey would be a good option. He might actually create something or have a shot on target.

Agreed provided he had a limited instruction just to carry the ball from a defensive position and release it successfully before 'taking on the opposition defensive world' and trying to beat half a dozen players near the defensive by-line.

Mayor was excellent for us only last season when we were the League 1 Champions.

He’d be very useful to still have around given the current lack of a link between the midfield and the attack.
