Play-off income

The income generated from the play-offs is shared between the four participating clubs and the rest of League Two - this is called the Pool Account and money is paid out depending on the position each club finishes in League Two.
Sky TV money from the play-offs including the final is not paid to the four clubs but to the Football League.

The four teams taking part in the semi-finals will equally share 50% of the income from the four games, the other 50% goes into the Pool Account.
So Argyle would receive 12.5% of income from all four play-off semi-final matches regardless of the size of attendances at each game.

The two teams in the play-off final will share 50% of the income generated (not the TV money) and the other 50% goes into the Pool Account. So if Argyle reached the final they will receive 25% of income generated from the Wembley game.

Luton manager John Still is hoping for freak results this Saturday...
"I reminded the boys that a few years ago, in the play-off semi-final, we (Dagenham & Redbridge) beat Morecambe 6-0.

"So if you want to believe you haven’t got a chance, you have no chance.
But if you want to believe, you have a chance.
"Because if you look at Saturday, a freak happened. Well a freak might happen again, so we have to have that positiveness about us."

Friday 1 May

The Home Park ticket office will be open on Bank Holiday Monday at 9am, although the phone line will not open until 11am.

Luton manager John Still has instructed his team to attack and search for early goals against Stevenage....

"I don’t think you go silly, but we’ve got to put the emphasis on attacking, absolutely.
"You’ve got to do it structured. You can’t do it unstructured, but we’ll go out and give it a go and see where it goes.
"If we were fortunate enough to get in front by a couple, maybe in the last 20 minutes you might go gung-ho, but we’ll see."

James Brent speaks to the Herald about the play-offs ....
"I think there is a great sense of excitement across the city and the across the region.
"I have had a number of texts and telephone calls about it from people who don't watch football regularly.
"I certainly think there will be a very substantial crowd at Home Park on Saturday. I would be amazed if it's not the highest crowd that we have seen while I have been in situ, so that's great."
"I do think what John Sheridan says is absolutely right, that on our day we can beat any team in League Two."

"I'm sure it will be absolutely wonderful. I understand the fans are planning a display before the game.
"Seeing those displays, there is nothing that can make you feel prouder to be a Devonian and to be associated with Plymouth Argyle."

There are no trains leaving Plymouth station after the match on Saturday. First Great Western have issued a statement...
"In light of Argyle's involvement on Saturday please be aware that due to the scheduled late kick off there are NO rail services departing Plymouth after the match. Saturday's game will be broadcast on Sky Sports 1 at 7.40pm, it's also on Radio Devon and Argyle player and on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra.

Argyle's away ticket allocation of 1,850 has sold out and so far 13,000 tickets have been sold for the game at Home Park.

Peter Hartley spoke to the Herald about the Wycombe game..
"We have watched Wycombe in a couple of away games on DVD.
"The way they play is that they try to slow the game down. They score a lot of goals from second phases through set pieces.
"It's going to be a scrappy game and we have got to concentrate for 95 minutes. If we don't they are more than capable of getting a goal.

"But if we take control of the game and we move the ball like we can, I think we can really hurt them and keep them on the back foot.
"If we get that crowd behind us as well it will be like a wave and Wycombe won't know what has hit them.

"Hopefully, we start well with a good strong tempo and the fans get behind us and really believe that something special can happen."

The Wycombe players and management spend Saturday morning walking around Plymouth city centre.

Argyle lose the first leg 3-2. Wycombe scored two first half goals followed by a third goal early in the second half. Zak Ansah and Jason Banton scored two late goals to keep Argyle in the tie in front of a 14,174 crowd at Home Park.

Sunday 10 May

John Sheridan had words of praise for the Green Army ....
"First thing, and this is not me creeping, but I thought our supporters were absolutely outstanding tonight," said John, "and they played a big part in us getting back in the game.”

“I don’t want to be watching. I want to be playing. That’s the way I feel. It absolutely kills me that I’m watching. It was an unbelievable atmosphere. At 3-0 down they right behind the team.

“The atmosphere was brilliant. They were singing at 3-0 when we were down and not playing well. I think the players understand that, as well, and I believe it gave us that lift. We get the goal, which gives the fans even more for the tempo and the atmosphere.”

“They were unbelievable tonight, the supporters, and I know they’ll be unbelievable on Thursday night. We’ll have nearly 2,000 there and we could have taken five or six thousand if we had the tickets.”

Scorers Zak Ansah and Jason Banton also thanked the fans. From the club website...
Ansah: “The fans were brilliant – even at 3-0 down, they were spurring us on,” “If they get behind us (on Thursday) like they did the whole game today, they will definitely have an impact on the game. We have just got to believe. It’s only half-time.”

Banton: “I have been here for few derbies against Exeter but I think that topped it off. When I played in the derbies, it’s usually been relegation or mid-table, but the atmosphere was a great atmosphere in terms of play-offs – to see the fans, at 3-0 down, still singing away…you can’t beat that.”

Carl McHugh, Peter Hartley, Anthony O'Connor and Lewis Alessandra were all booked in the first leg game, if they pick up another yellow card in the second leg they will miss the final if Argyle get there.

The other League Two play-off semi-final finished Stevenage 1 - 1 Southend.

Monday 11 May

Tickets are still available to watch the second leg on TV in the Tribute Lounge at Home Park on Thursday. The cost is £5 which includes a pasty and a pint.
http://www.pafc.co.uk/news/article/home ... 35344.aspx

Steven Craig, who scored Wycombe's third goal, claims there was no handball in the build up to the second goal....
Bucks Press: "It was never a handball.
“That’s part and parcel of the game. The referee never saw it because there was nothing to see, and it was a great finish by the big man. To win 3-2 and get an assist and a goal is pleasing.”

Another 300 tickets for the away game will go on sale to Argyle fans on Tuesday morning...

Bastille drummer Chris "Woody" Wood will be the drummer amongst the Green Army at Wycombe on Thursday.

Inexcusable lack of passion from too many players first half.

We were probably lucky to qualify for the play-offs given our season's record. If we add in the two games with Wycombe to our League showing it doesn't make for particularly impressive reading for a team looking to gain promotion

P48 W20 D11 L17 F58 A42

Too much inconsistency, not enough Shrewsbury showings or Portsmouth performances - far too many Wycombe whimpers and Carlisle capitulations.

Posted elsewhere this season has now created a difficult scenario - the manager has met the "minimum" requirement, but, we were hardly unlucky losers in the semi-finals and signs of real progress are hard to identify (other than not fighting relegation). I fear they will allow us to start next season under the current management structure we have ended with. Expect though that we may well have a quite different playing squad come August - the loan players will have gone, presumably others too.

The Board may well not agree with the fans who want a managerial change, but, they must agree that the club's fans deserve far better than what they have seen this season.
