It isn't in Torquay!

It is on the outskirts of Newton Abbott. I played hockey there against the former agricultural college many times, and I recall the slope, which was pronounced. I am glad for everybody's sake that levelling has taken place

About 30 miles from HP give or take.

Edit: New players could locate themselves nearer to Ashburton or Newton Abbot and have a short trip for training.

Training facilities that is.

Means players can live in Exeter area and be just as close to training as the Plymouth based players.
Could not having the extra hour on the A38, living in a (if we're being unbiased) decent enough city and having a proper airport on the doorstep be enough to tempt the odd extra player down?

Let's train in Bristol and be 2/3 hours up north. Without being biased, Plymouth is a much better city.

i drive past it everyday and it takes less than 30 mins from plymouth, depending on the a38 not being completley shut for accidents i would think players would be bused there every day,

Re: Bristol, know was said jokingly but as a young person who moved from Ivybridge area (Ermington) to Bristol and has stayed there, Bristol is a much better city for folks my age (20, almost 21), and have a fairly young squad.

More on topic, that's not ridiculously far, DA should be the one to say whether will affect the team if tis too far

It makes a lot of sense for both teams provided Torquay don't want too much money.

They can't afford it, Exeter don't need it, Argyle need something like it.

The key criteria is surely, how good are the facilities?

Secondly, can the facilities accommodate two clubs in all conditions?

Location doesn't seem a massive issue to me - millions of people commute 20 or so miles to work every day. Many clubs now have training facilities that are nowhere near their stadiums.

Would the club release (for a suitable sum) Harpers Park back to PCC or is it only leased?

That would be a great incentive.... come and live in exciting Ashburton!

If it works for both Plymouth and Torquay, why not? :scarf:

Aside from the pre-season training facilities at Marjons the facility at Seale-Hayne are as good as any within a 30 mile radius of the City. Since taking a long lease on the facility three or four years ago the Gulls have invested over £100,000 on improving the existing facility. It has four level well drained pitches, a pavilion with changing rooms and medical and gym facilities and is fairly private being tree lined.

Torquay United, given their continuing parlous financial state simply cannot afford to keep it going,, particularly when they axed their Academy which was also based there.Sharing the facility will reduce their cost base.

Harpers Park has never been fit for purpose in adverse weather conditions and the adjoining former cricket club, owned by previous Directors off the club, remains unavailable to expand into for improved facilities. Once the students are back at Marjons then the availability of that facility is reduced or even eliminated. That means occasional usage of the Home Park pitch or 3G pitches as at Saltash.

For too many years the provisional of adequate training facilities for the club and its Youth set up has not reached the top of the 'must have'agenda for the club despite the occasional promise by Directors to find better facilities in the City area. It is ironic given that the football club is located within the largest park in the City. However, we are where we are and if the use of vastly improved facilities, albeit 30 miles away, results in improved training and team performances then the training facility share with the Gulls will not only have been a pragmatic decision but a beneficial one too.

Cracking post. As you say Harpers Park is barely adequate and we've been ticking over using it for years. Other clubs have seen the massive benefit of having quality training facilities, whereas we frustratingly haven't seen it as an important area of investment. If this is an improvement then the club would be stupid to ignore this opportunity.
