Last weekend, the Trust celebrated its fifth birthday with a party at the Stoke Bar & Grill, the venue (as Stoke Social Club) for its inaugural meeting. As in 2010, we were delighted to welcome the Trust’s newly appointed President, Argyle goalkeeping legend, Romain Larrieu and his son Oscar. Our other special guest was Bastille drummer and Home Park regular, Chris ‘Woody’ Wood – who became Trust member # 1021.
It was a pleasure to see over 120 Trust members enjoying themselves so much after such a disappointing result. To have Romain and Woody speak was a real bonus! We also raised nearly £1,000 on the auction and £400 with the raffle, as well as the ticket sales.
It was also an honour at Tuesday night’s home game against Leyton Orient to be able to mark the extraordinary record of Trust member, Lewis Ridge. As reported, in the Herald earlier this week, Lewis has not missed a single Argyle first team match since the game against Orient in March 1985. Courtesy of the Club, Lewis and his son Nathan were guests for the evening and I was able to present him with a signed ball and match programme.
The Fans’ Trust prides itself on its links with the community. Last season, the Trust sponsored the poppy logo on the back of the first team shirts. We also support the annual Plymouth Christmas Foodbank appeal. We’ll be doing so again this year on Saturday 12th December before the home game against Cambridge via our gazebo outside the Devonport End.
This year, we are also partnering PADSA, the Plymouth Argyle Disabled Supporters’ Association, helping to raise consciousness and changing attitudes to the needs of fans with disabilities at Home Park and other football grounds.
Meanwhile our application for Home Park to be awarded Asset of Community Value status is still with the City Council and we are anticipating a ruling early in the New Year.
