1) Kennedy returned to the starting line-up. Bradley fit enough to make the bench alongside Slew and Blissett. No space for Tanner, Donaldson or Bulvitis. A promised parade if we stayed off the pitch. Much of the attention though would be on Doncaster. A cheer at Home Park for Exeter? Without any notice Miller replaced Threlkeld in the starting 11.

2) Pressure from Crewe early on a doubtful free-kick was cleared for a corner. The corner came and from the scramble the ball fell to a Crewe player smashed the ball past an unsighted McCormick. Argyle changed personnel to try and find the right combination but it wasn't until Jervis joined Taylor as a pair that things started to work.

3) Sawyer outplayed on the left and Miller woeful in the right didn't help the situation as Argyle went very narrow in attack. Carey was in "let him go" best and with Kennedy conspired to give possession away on countless occasions in the first 45. McCormick, Sokolik, Songo'o and Fox the only ones with any credit in the first half. Although Taylor worked hard to little affect.

4) Argyle's frustration with the lack of reffing control bubbled over through Sarcevic as yet another Crewe player fell to the floor, shot by the Mayflower sniper. Sarcevic was booked for dissent. Argyle without a shot in the first half of any note. Major rethink required at half-time. The Home Park crowd was silent from about the 20th minute to the interval.

5) Jervis the unlucky one to make way. I'd have taken both Carey and Kennedy off for not doing the required job. On came Blissett. Shortly into the second half and Bradley replaced Songo'o. Blissett and Taylor began to win a lot more possession but Kennedy remained out of the game whilst Carey kept going with the glory option.

6) News came through of scores elsewhere but at Home Park we were still not looking dangerous enough. Into the last 15 and Argyle finally created a chance with Blissett bringing a world class save out of the Crewe goalie. The resulting corner fell to Sawyer whose mishit shot was helped on by Taylor for the equaliser.

7) Suddenly the Argyle crowd was alive. Crewe made substitutions at times when the pressure was on them. The first one diffused the Argyle threat brilliantly the second didn't work. A couple of corners and Blissett thumped home the second with a firm header. Argyle reverted immediately to 4-5-1.

8 ) The news of an Exeter third preceded a period of Crewe pressure and a number of corners. Desperate defending and clearances just brought more corners. Eventually a wild Crewe shot gave Argyle relief. Kennedy was replaced by Slew.

9) Four minutes of injury time announced, much of it minutes added on by Crewe time wasting earlier in the game. Bradley showed that he brings more than defending to the side. Sawyer and Miller had much better second-halves. Bradley and Blissett impressive off the bench. Sokolik and Fox impressive throughout. Taylor man of the match. And so to Grimsby. ...

Absolutely Awful for 70 mins then an epic finish sparked by Blissett and a change in formation.
The last 5 mins seemed like 5 hours as we hung on with Bradley winning some immense headers.

Could and should have been gone by half time as we started slowly yet again and we're indebted to some poor Crewe finishing.
The aptmosphere those last 20 mins when the Exeter score was coming through was incredible and a thumping Blissett header from a superb cross ( Carey I think) nearly took the roof of the old ground.
Somehow we have it in our own hands next week.
Go get them boys
:scarf: :scarf: :scarf: :scarf:

And again break the bank for Carey.
Simply Irreplaceable

As one of the more green tinted fans I can safely say that typical Argo almost returned today and for the first half our predictable formation and pattern was beautifully outwitted by Crewe, who were not adverse to the odd dark art, helped by the worst ref i have seen in a while (also physically unfit).

Second half, Derek made the vital changes and Bliss is starting to look a real player. Crewe couldn't keep up the tempo and were being forced back, although they still largely did well to nullify out creative players. Set pieces and a bit of luck with Sawyers shot saved the day.

Now it would be a nice birthday present to get the Championship!

The stuff of Champions!

From looking down and out and losing to winning and climbing to top of the league, the game was a typical example of Argyle's season - a sheer will to win!

It was an incredible finish to a game, the last 15 minutes will live long in the memory, there were fantastic scenes at the final whistle when everyone knew we were top of the league.

Will "championes" be ringing out around Grimsby next week?

At one point during the game we were third, now we have a great chance of winning the title, in fact Doncaster or Portsmouth can also finish top.

Crewe should have buried us during the first half but missed a host of chances, Adams changed formations several times during the game to find a way past a very good footballing team, in the end it was a miss hit shot from Sawyer that fell to Taylor to thump home and then a superb cross from Carey that was headed in by Blissett to spark incredible scenes at Home Park.

Garita, Tanner, Donaldson and Bulvitis were all missing from the squad but Kennedy returned to the starting line-up and Bradley was deemed fit enough for the bench.

Despite being named in the starting eleven and having his name read out over the PA system Threlkeld didn't start the game after picking up an injury during the warm-up, Miller came into the team and Donaldson quickly changed into his kit to take his place on the bench.

The late change seemed to unsettle the team and especially Miller who had a very poor start to the game.
It was his poor header when defending a corner that allowed Jones to smash in an excellent goal from the edge of the area.
It was the first goal we had conceded from a corner since moving to the zonal making system against Exeter in February.

We just couldn't get going, passes were going astray, mistakes were made and there was no momentum.

McCormick made a good save from a swirling cross-shot and there were several crosses that just needed a final touch from a Crewe player, we should have been at least three goals down.

Carey was having a bad game and his frustration showed when he clipped a Crewe player, another ref might have given a red card but Trevor Kettle just gave Carey a lecture, the ref was weak throughout the game, in this instance it favoured Carey but other times he needed to be stronger with the Crewe players.

We finished the first half with hardly a shot on target and a 4-4-2 formation with Jervis partnering Taylor up front.

For the second half Blissett replaced Jervis as Adams again when for a 4-4-2 formation and also instructed his players to play the long ball to Taylor and Blissett. It didn't work because Crewe still contained us, we were not helped by a few mistakes from Songo'o that allowed Crewe to attack us.

Songo'o was replaced by Player of the Season Bradley, not many managers would change a defender while losing a game.

As the second half continued news filtered through that Doncaster were losing, the players responded with some sustained pressure and a header from Blissett was tipped over the bar.

With the fans right behind them the team grabbed the equaliser.
A Carey corner was cleared to Sawyer, his miss hit shot fell to Taylor to thump in from close range. 1-1 and Home Park erupted.

It was now all Argyle and five minutes later Blissett scored a possible title decinding winner.
Carey delivered the best cross of the game and there was Blissett to head in and spark incredible scenes.
We were on course for third position and yet now amazingly we were top of the league!

Crewe had late pressure with several corners but there was Bradley to head clear on each occasion, as he so often does.

The final whistle was met with players hugging each other and fans cheering. It was a fantastic finish to the game.

The Crewe manager David Artell spent the entire game moaning at the fourth official and the referee, this continued despite a warning from the ref.

No player was at his best today but as we've seen this season whenever we are second best we have that extra bit of quality to win games, Carey's cross for the winning goal was fantastic, Bradley's clearing headers kept Crewe at bay, Taylor's finish to equalise and Blissett's header were all quality moments to win a game that perhaps we shouldn't have.
The sheer will to win despite not playing well has been the story of the season.

Man of the match: Taylor.

McCormick 7, Miller 5, Songo'o 5, Sokolik 6, Sawyer 6, Fox 7, Sarcevic 7, Carey 6, Jervis 5, Kennedy 6, Taylor 8. Subs: Bradley 7, Blissett 7, Slew n/a.

Happy days! Managed to get a ticket late in the day. Our full backs were overrun--threlkeld was missed. Jake was having a day, second to everything--we were lucky to be just 1 down at h/t. Second half subs made the difference, Bradley bringing confidence to a shaky defence and blisset first to the ball and winning multiple headers. Crowd got behind the team and slowly Argyle edged their way into it. Great cross by Carey and a well executed header from blisset. Bingo!

I'm surprised at 7s for sarcevic. He was a passenger for the whole game. On the few occasions he got involved he made mistakes.

I was impressed with blisset. Having him as a partner made Taylor's hard work more effective rather than the first 45 minutes of chafing lost causes. Sokolik played well too

Another shocking home performance for 70 minutes, we couldn't string three passes together and we looked like we were thinking of the holidays and close season. The catalyst was Sonny coming on and he started to cajole his team mates and led from the back, whatever contract he wants we should look to give him. We started to get some joy with the long ball and Blissett was causing problems. We scored twice in 5 minutes then went back to giving the ball away cheaply, again Sonny won some very important headers to help keep Crewe at bay. So we go to Grimsby with a great chance to win the league, let's remember they thrashed us 3-0 down here this season and let's hope they are looking for their break and holidays. The crowd were magic for the last 20 minutes and a good end to average season of home performances.
