I have received an email from Marilyn Coleman, Phil's widow. With her permission, it is pasted below.
Marilyn has also told me that due to Phil's illness, they have to go through a full post mortem and inquest, so there is nothing as to when Phil's funeral will take place.
I have asked Marilyn to let me know when that is.
Thank you very much for making contact with my brother in law, Michael. I feel I know you quite well, as Phil was so pleased to 'meet up' with you again via Pasoti and told me such a lot about you when you and he were growing up together in Horrabridge.
During his illness, Plymouth Argyle and all the 'friends' he made on Pasoti, were a great comfort to him and he spent many a happy hour discussing the ups and downs of Argyle. We had planned to go to the last home match of the season, but Phil became too poorly. Luckily, he did not suffer at the end of his life and died peacefully in Derriford Hospital with Michael and Me at his side. I will always be relieved that he didn't suffer the usual long painful death of Mesothelioma.
I would like to thank everyone who took part in the Auction and to the person who kindly donated the shirt . It was an incredible amount of money to raise and I know the support group will be very grateful. all the members work very hard to raise funds to help fellow sufferers and also to raise awareness of the dangers of Asbestos. Mesothelioma is a terrible illness and so many people in the Plymouth area suffer because of their work in Devonport Dockyard. Sadly, we have no idea how or when Phil contracted the disease, but must have come into contact with Asbestos somewhere during the early part of his life.
I will be contacting Damon Lezner to thank him and to make arrangements for the presentation.
With Best wishes to you and your wife,
