I do not know how many of you know, but the young lad who fell from the Manadon flyover on Monday 23rd was 16 year old, and lifelong Argyle fan Matthew Cotter. Matthew attended St Boniface's College and had just finished his last GCSE exam before the incident took place. He passed away in Derriford Hospital later that day. Matthew was a Green as a youngster and so it is with great sadness and shock that his passing has come at such a tragically young age.

A quote from one of his close friends..

Quote:
On Monday 23rd June we lost one of the kindest, funniest people I know. That morning I was told about 15 minutes after it had happened by a friend and at first I didn't know what to do, I wanted to think it was a joke or a dream but it wasn't and then it hit me, and I just broke down, something I did multiple times that day, any of us that knew Matt were in no doubt that he had a bright future ahead of him and the he had a lot of potential, having spent the last five years in his class it's fair to say that I've got so many memories of things that he has said and done, things that have defined my secondary school life. With Matt leaving us it's fair to say life will never be the same, he has left a gap in all our lives, and at 16 he left us way before his time. My thoughts go out everyone that knows him, family, friends and whoever else. R.I.P Matt x

On the same day myself and a few friends left a memorial on Manadon flyover footbridge and we would be honoured if you did the same.

Jake Bishop

RIP Matthew Cotter, 1997-2014.

I knew Matthew when he was younger and knew the whole family-though have not seen them for some years. Truly tragic. Such a young age and felt sick to my stomach upon hearing the news.

RIP.

R I P Pilgrim, this is so sad. I almost lost my wife on the same day due to her suffering an aneurism in the brain but have been fortunate in that she was at work when it happened and had help immediately or she would not be here now. She had a 10 hour operation yesterday and hopefully is on the way to recovery - I have a lot to be grateful for, Matthew's family don't have that. Mine and my family's condolences on your loss.

Such a tragic event. The endless tributes and resoects on Facebook show it is amazing how much impact one person can have on hundreds and perhaps even thousands of people's lives. It's incredible, but I could not imagine something as tragic as this taking place, and I'd be completely lost if that had been one of my family or friends. A day starts as normal, but before you can do anything your entire world has been turned upside down. RIP.

Phil, that sounds hurrendous. Thoughts with you and your family and good to hear your wife is ok.

I've just received this message (in Italics below) from Matthew's older brother David which he would like me to post on his behalf:

He was a season ticket holder since he was 5 years old and a 4th generation Argyle fan. Whenever he was asked what his favourite Premiership team was Matt would always say he only had 2 teams and those were Argyle and England. Lastly, he played for the Plymouth Argyle Youth Disability Team and had so much enjoyment through playing for them

RIP Pilgrim.
