As i recall Neil used to live in a house called Restawhile in North Road Torpoint when he was a young lad.I used to hang around with his older brother Richard now and again and he told me that Neil thought that any passer by who was a little weary could come in and rest for a while.Always took a different slant on life did Neil.

Awful news for Slim's missus that.

He sought no controversy, IMHO. His only gripe in person, which he'd never belittle anyone for, might be not keeping up with his brilliant mind in flipping the conversation from Keith Richards to cake mix to ferry upgrades back to knock-off Argyle key rings from the market down town. The great man had enviable perspective.

Play a song at H-T to five thousand queuing for burgers with peas in and jolly's cola, sure.

But have fifty plus of us knowingly look at "that statue" on the Hoe and every time briefly recall Neil's artistry. We know which he'd want.

RIP to a gent and a genius of a janner.

Shocking news indeed.

He was someone you would always look for when walking through the door of the away pub and on seeing him knew it would be a good day regardless of the result on the field.

My lasting memory is of meeting up with him in the pub after a game at Brentford and still being there 6 hours later after a highly entertaining evening of karaoke with Slim the star turn of course.

Characters like him are few and far between and we are all poorer without them.

I learned all too late about the wit, wisdom and eloquence of this man. He also had an amazing memory for specific games. Due to a slight disagreement at the turn of the year we were exchanging PMs. Our difference was settled in the first exchange. We started to swap views about a few of the players from the 60s. I happened to mention Jimmy Gauld and the fact that he ran the bribes scandal from a pub on the outskirts of Mansfield. Tyhee knew the place well but cursed the fact that he had not known that it had "Argyle connections". I also told him where Gauld had lived and he knew it well. Later in the correspondence Neil informed me that he was actually named after a team mate of Gauld's, the great Neil Dougall. Apparently his dad and Neil Dougall were good friends and Neil was also his godfather. So this was a man who could truly claim to have had a lifelong association with Plymouth Argyle, an association that we all wish could have been even longer. RIP

Ian as a pasoti tribute to Neil would it be at all possible to have his signature added to the banners at the top of each page for the rest of the season, just a thought.

Great idea. Now done, and will remain until the countdown to new season clock returns.

Seems like yesterday catching the ferry to matches with him or debating games and players in the various Torpoint pubs, many fond memories. Not met or talked for many years but will still miss him and his posts terribly.

RIP Neil, condolences Richard........ Kim

Very sad news, in my 10 years on Pasoti Slim was always here. Heart felt condolences to his family.
RIP Pilgrim

RIP Pilgrim, thoughts are with his family and friends.

He was always a great forum poster, as many say before, well thought out arguements and comments (albiet sometimes a bit wacky and long winded!).

A sad loss for all.

No idea what he meant.

Can anyone enlighten me?

Oh no!
I bumped into Neil in the pub at Mansfield some seasons ago before a match. I just remember having such a nice time, chatting with him. He was going back to University, studying Italian.
He just enjoyed life - things amused him, like Laurel and Hardy.

And I asked him about his signature:
"This is the king of shirting fabrics and as light as a soufflé"

It was just something he saw once, written by a textile manufacturer on his blurb.
It amused Neil and made him chuckle.
Thank you Neil for amusing us. RIP

Thanks Putney Pete

Absolutely delighted the signature was rooted in something totally mundane.

RIP Pilgrim.

I'm sure, like many of us, we always wondered what the signature was all about. Made me smile when I saw it.

Cheers to Putney Pete for the explanations and couldn't agree more with Andy that it is a joy that it was just bizarre!
