The forward line used to roll off the tongue in the early/mid sixties....Barrie Jones, Mike Trebilcock,Frank Lord, Cliff Jackson and Nicky Jennings...used to sing a little song at the time, courtesy of Manfred Mann(Do wah diddy)... Hooray, who scored, was it Jennings or Frank Lord....
How sad is this? In my mind's eye I still see that skinny little lad hugging the touchline - a lad who had so much skill, pace and courage. Andy Beattie brought him in to replace Peter McParland and Nicky never looked back. Argyle were in a hopeless position when he came into the side but in the 14 games he played we lost just twice and escaped relegation on the last day of the season. It was a passing I never saw coming - he was just 70. Your memory is good oddball - those are the four forwards he played most games with. He played 100 times with John Newman, who later took Nicky to Exeter City when Newman was manager there. RIP Nicky, you gave us a real treat each time you whizzed down that touchline. Nicky was one of two wingers on the books at that time who emerged from the Huish Grammar School in Taunton - the other was Stuart Brace.

great childhood memories as a nine year old poking my nose through the Lyndhurst front rail to watch my heroes...Barrie Jones and Nicky Jennings on the touchline showing me how wingers should play. RIP Nicky.

I was lucky enough to see him play on numerous occasions.

Thank you and RIP Nicky.

Great shame. He was in the team when I saw my first game in 1964. Remember the time he left the pitch to change his shirt but, as an opportunity arose to go for goal on the through ball, cam back on the pitch carrying his shirt in his hand. Memories. RIP.

Me likewise 1964 being the start of my Argyle experience. I had forgotten all about that chasing the ball carrying his shirt episode. I was there that day too. It's funny how you can reel off the names of the first Argyle team you saw easier than any other since. RIP.

RIP Nicky. Very sad news.

A great little winger and also one of my earlier memories of Argyle.

Condolences to family and friends.

The very skilful Nicky Jennings on the left, the clever Barrie Jones on the right, with Frank Lord the old war-horse and young Mike Trebilcock from Gunnislake in the middle; happy days.

Very sad.

Doesn't seem like 50+ years ago.

RIP Nicky Jennings.

Those were the days proper old fashioned wingers.before Alf Ramseys much copied style of no wingers.

Need a bit of help with this memory,I recall a match when Nicky Jennings was being clattered all over the place by a somewhat robust defender. After about the umpteenth foul Johnny Newman walked over to this defender and words were spoken to the clogger in his shell like ear,as Newman walked away facing the culprit,he wagged his finger and said "just remember" to him, Needless to say the clattering stopped.
Can anyone recall this incident the offending player and the match ?

One of my top three wingers ever to play for Argyle (along with Barry Jones and Gary Nelson. Was such an exiting direct winger who could frequently beat his man. Brings back such fond memories. Passed far to early. RIP, condolences to his family.

Honoured to have seen Nicky in my visit to HP vs Hull in 1966-67, Lyndhurst standing, big crowd and I seem to remember Mike Bickle scoring with a swirling 40 yarder (may have been less but things always seem longer or bigger when you are young!). I think Nicky left later that season. A cultured left winger. RIP and thank you.
