A very British coup

So this is what they meant by “Taking back control”

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-49493632

A bunch of old Etonians have decided that the ‘Mother of Parliaments’ is no longer required. It gets in the way of what they believe is best for us …. or rather THEM.

The most F***ing galling part (forgive the language) is they are using the referendum as a pretext to p*ss over our democratic system of checks and balances that has been crafted over centuries by people whose shoes they’re not fit to lick – all in the name of democracy FFS!!!

But don’t worry peasants….. “It’s just business as usual……. so run along now”

A NO-DEAL BREXIT WAS NOT ON THE F***ING BALLOT PAPER. THEY HAVE NO MANDATE. NOW THEY CLOSE OUR PARLIAMENT….. IT’S A F***ING OUTRAGE

What planet are you on? It’s nothing to do with the EU.

A small clique within the government itself has just decided to cancel parliament to force something through that has no mandate from either the people of this country or their elected representatives……and this ‘something’ just happens to be the most profound change in our modern History.

What’s that got to do with the F***ing EU?

So you want to be ruled by tyrants and dictators now.

Again, we’re the hell are you coming from.

This could come quite nasty.

If you believe in our democracy then sign this NOW and write or email your MP immediately.

Doubtless the Eton gang will dismiss it as fake Russian bots - but surely it's the least we can do?

Quote from the Speaker of the House:

“I have had no contact from the government, but if the reports that it is seeking to prorogue parliament are confirmed, this move represents a constitutional outrage,”

I share your rage, Ave_IT and Martyn - exacerbated by comments like the one-liner above. (Ad hominem attack rather grudgingly deleted before posting.)

[Irony alert, to save all the outrage...]

As we're now apparently living in a post-democratic society, how about these non-democratic ideas: mandatory IQ tests and politics exams, with high pass criteria, before anyone can cast a vote on anything more significant than the membership of their local parish council.

If this what it takes to get Brexit then good on Boris. We voted to leave the EU fullstop. You Remainers have never accepted the majority view. A No deal Brexit is fine by me.

Look, you are missing the point, as usual.

Yes, there was a vote to leave, but it was passed in law for Parliament to decide HOW we left.

Johnson has now stopped all that. Don’t you understand all that.

I have not missed the point and take offence that you say I have beforehand. Excuse my ignorance but I thought the PM is threatening to suspend parliament because a few clueless Remainers are trying to block a no deal Brexit.
The majority voted to leave with no conditions attached.
This is ALL to do with the EU as they will not alter their stance.
It is you that are living on another planet.Thankfully now we have a leader who is prepared to do whatever it takes to honour the wishes of most of the country.

I won't excuse your ignorance because you seem to be willfully ignoring the point - not missing it.

Suspending parliament is an outrageous abuse of his powers. The referendum does not confer any such right. If he gets away with it now then what next? Maybe Trump wants him to help with an invasion of Iran but parliament would stop it so - "Hey! Let's pull the ol' prorogue thing again to stop any vote until after we've already sent the boys in."

THAT IS THE F***ING POINT.

We're supposed to have a democracy where the powers of the executive is controlled by the legislature (parliament) and an independent judiciary......... It's called the separation of powers. Look it up.

Democracy is not simply a matter of one f'cked up referendum that was utterly misleading then using that to ride rough-shod over the entire fundamentals of our system. FFS they have 'elections' in Russia and Zimbabwe but that doesn't mean they're democracies does it? .....or don't you mind if some strong man takes the powers into his own hands to "just get on with it"......is that what you want?

Will be fascinating to see how this pans out - it's a bit like an endgame of chess between Boris's government and the remainers though I suspect Dominic Cummings is having a big say on what moves to make on Johnson's side. I see he has also been busy cleaning out the 'Augean stables' of government advisors and bringing in the people of his choice.. Not a man to be underestimated is Cummings.

As soon as May took the No Deal option off of the table there was never any reason why the EU would negotiate with us. Lets hope that today's events opens the door for further negotiation over the forthcoming weeks.
