UK-US trade deal under threat unless Iran stance changes, says Trump ally

I’m afraid you’re horribly right. Making our country’s future dependant upon a trade deal with a country led by a megalomaniac like Trump must rate as one of the daftest decisions in the entire history of our country.

It's just the merest hint of the monumental reality check that our mighty independent nation will be getting over the next few years. Still, at least we'll have blue passports, eh?

Still don’t understand how we can control our borders which was one of the Leave campaign slogans when Boris (part of that campaign) knows and says we wont be having any controls on our only land border with the EU.

I personally renewed my passport so I’m keeping my EU passport for 10 years at least! It makes me feel good to remind myself of better times!

That is an interesting clip – thanks for the link - although I imagine we take different things from it.

The Afd are the nationalist German party – at best they are an even more right wing version of the Brexit party but actually verging on the ‘far right’ (think English Defence League) that peddles anti-immigrant & downright racist bull-sh1t.. So that is the context in which that should be viewed. The chilling thing for me watching that is the virulent anti-French rhetoric it is laced with, and the arrogant lumping together of the “small” countries & “Club Med” states as a burden on the Germans. Doesn’t that ring any deeply disturbing historic bells for you?

After three appalling wars between the French and Germans in the space of 70 years, hundreds of millions of dead and a genocide the like of which had never been witnessed before – conflicts that engulfed the whole planet - the European Coal & Steel community (from which the EU evolved) was conceived to prevent it ever happening again. It should be remembered that was its one and only initial objective. But it flourished from economies of scale and other countries soon joined and the idea of European co-operation & frictionless borders took hold. Soon the new single European market helped devastated countries to not just recover but thrive and what’s more live in peace and prosperity together after centuries of bloodshed.

So when you say it should be compulsory viewing to watch extreme German nationalists making up quotes, talking of "renegades & traitors", attacking the French and insulting neighbouring smaller counties – I tend to agree. We should all be very wary of such people and do all we can to preserve the kind of Europe we have had since the war and never forget where such b*llox can lead.

Well, here we go and into the final stretch before the long drawn out period of trade deals and working out how we’ll live with our near neighbour.

I have been absolutely disgusted by Nigel Farage and his hateful rhetoric towards our European friends and certainly in his last days the mask has slipped to reveal a monstrous person within.

To use the word hate in his last speech in the EU Parliament was totally abhorrent and thank god this individual is now out of work.

It also led me to think how since Farage became the defacto leader of our MEPs whether a less personally ambitious member might have led to the kind of reforms the European Union still need to continue.

I also wonder if his warped idea of national identity and hateful words and deeds extends to his German wife and German citizen children.

Farage may have his faults but I'd prefer him to Boris as PM.
He is not afraid to say what a lot of people are thinking!

Farage has got his faults, no may about it. Being a Nazi doesn't seem to matter to some and his rhetoric, likening our leaving Brexit as if a war has been won is simply too much. The Europeans are our allies and cared more for our future than the US. Under Obama we were told we'd be at the back of the queue but that pales into insignificance when we look at being asset stripped by Trump.

Boris is a coward and runs away whenever he is faced with a question he doesn't want to answer and this is what you t@s voted for.

Just watching the news. People shouting 'burn it, burn it!' as they burn the Euro flag and stamp on it.
Oh, it just makes you so proud to be British don't it!!??
