That is an interesting clip – thanks for the link - although I imagine we take different things from it.
The Afd are the nationalist German party – at best they are an even more right wing version of the Brexit party but actually verging on the ‘far right’ (think English Defence League) that peddles anti-immigrant & downright racist bull-sh1t.. So that is the context in which that should be viewed. The chilling thing for me watching that is the virulent anti-French rhetoric it is laced with, and the arrogant lumping together of the “small” countries & “Club Med” states as a burden on the Germans. Doesn’t that ring any deeply disturbing historic bells for you?
After three appalling wars between the French and Germans in the space of 70 years, hundreds of millions of dead and a genocide the like of which had never been witnessed before – conflicts that engulfed the whole planet - the European Coal & Steel community (from which the EU evolved) was conceived to prevent it ever happening again. It should be remembered that was its one and only initial objective. But it flourished from economies of scale and other countries soon joined and the idea of European co-operation & frictionless borders took hold. Soon the new single European market helped devastated countries to not just recover but thrive and what’s more live in peace and prosperity together after centuries of bloodshed.
So when you say it should be compulsory viewing to watch extreme German nationalists making up quotes, talking of "renegades & traitors", attacking the French and insulting neighbouring smaller counties – I tend to agree. We should all be very wary of such people and do all we can to preserve the kind of Europe we have had since the war and never forget where such b*llox can lead.
