Minority sport.

First ever black player for England, an England international whilst with a Plymouth club, South Africa refused to play England if he was in the team and was therefore dropped, lost three fingers in the Dockyard but it didn't stop him playing but he's not worthy because this isn't a rugby city?

If we can have a Royal Air Force and Allied Air Forces Memorial on the Hoe when we are more a Naval city than an Air Force city, then surely Jimmy Peters is worthy of being honoured.

I'm obviously biased for a few reasons.

A) I'm an Argyle fan
B) I don't do rugby
C) The idea was Keith's and he thought of Jack Leslie then the idea was hijacked a tad.

Perhaps if you were an Argyle fan you'd think the same.

As a resident I'm just throwing another name into the ring. I understand your Argyle connection but anything connected with the city is right to be considered.

Jack Lesle was born in 1901 and I don't know how WW1 affected him and his family. It seems ironic that you could die for England as a soldier but not play for England as a footballer.

Sitting in Limbo BBC suggests we are not so much further ahead.

Not political but should be on opinions but the thread belongs here.

If anyone thinks we (The UK) isn't light years of where we used to be in the 70s and before then they are very very wrong.

Something I didn't know - there was another and even earlier Plymouth representative, albeit with the wrong shaped ball:

Edited to add: for some reason, that link doesn't quite work, but use it and then click on the 'Did you mean' link.

Briangreen and Gaspargomez - your posts have been moved to Terraces.

Ok then, let me re-phrase.

If you want a fitting tribute to Jack Leslie, then maybe its better to name something new and prestiguous after him instead.

I wont post back into this particular thread again.

After my somewhat pathetic temporary banishment from Pasoti, I'm pleased to note that I have received an email from Tudor Evans to the effect that Jack Leslie is one of the names under consideration for the renaming the square.

Just boosting this for a bit to get over the 500 mark.
One of Jack's family has been in touch and is very supportive of the idea
So if we can squeeze a few more signatures that would be great
