If you want a fitting tribute to Jack Leslie, then maybe its better to name something new and prestiguous after him instead.

I wont post back into this particular thread again.

How about naming the new boardroom...... ?

Delighted to see that the petition has reached the 500 mark. Thanks to UTL for starting the ball rolling, and to everyone who has signed it.

The idea to name the square after Jack Leslie is definitely on the agenda now. To move it up the agenda we probably need to get involvement from the club and the media. I'll start the ball rolling, but if anyone has contacts and supports the idea, could you give them a little nudge?

Cracking idea Keith.

Well done. :nworthy:

Let's hope it's recognised who though of it first.

I’m delighted there will be some form of lasting tribute to Jack Leslie however I must be honest I’m not convinced that (the place formerly known as) Hawkins Square is the best place.
It’s tucked away beside the court and without any context given it’s significance could be lost. Personally I believe that whatever the square is renamed it should be a focal point for BAME history and impact in the city, but a statue (as proposed) of Jack up near Home Park just makes more sense.

I hope you get an invite to the renaming ceremony Keith.

Good news.
Well done Keith for the initial idea.
I also agree that there should be recognition of Jack at Home Park and I know there are already people on the case as far as that is concerned

Fingers crossed that this one gets across the line - and that the ref's technology is working properly! Thank you everyone for your support for the idea. I am totally blown away by your support. Hope we can meet up and shake hands once this pandemic is through. I might even buy you a pint! It's more personal for me than I let on, as I walk through this square on my way to home matches. I can only imagine the immense pride I shall feel every time I do if this comes to fruition. Not counting chickens yet!

This is OK and I salute the motive but the Square in question is frankly a non-entity and in isolation does little to recognise the injustice perpetrated on Jack Leslie, and by association, the club by the then FA. A statue on the ground concourse and / or a named stand maybe. He will then be recognised every matchday....and while we are at it, the Square did little to celebrate Hawkins achievements either...Vice Admiral to Drake, knighted for valour during the Armada battles, helped ensure we are talking English now and not Spanish....Flak helmet time now I guess....

Delighted this is going to happen ..... but I quite agree with the above - hopefully it's the first step. Home Park is definitely the place for any statue - if something a little more imaginative can't be thought of as a prominent tribute ?

I think 'tucked away' is ideal tbh!
A place you pass through, albeit 'accidentally', a quiet space for pause and reflection?
Just get the name out there so people see it and may ask: 'Who was Jack Leslie?'.
This is about prejudice and discrimination.
A tribute (in whatever form) at HP can be a joy and a football-related celebration. :scarf:
