When a young man earning money, the ‘common man/ woman’ can only dream of, uses his prominent position in life to publicise the shocking reality of child poverty in the UK, we know that there is a light somewhere in this land.
I never understand why a car driver (F1), golfer or singer can earn £20m+ a year and be lauded only for a lad from a council estate who kicks a football can earn £5m+ a year and be vilified. Yes all these sums of money are vulgar but I’d prefer it went into the pocket of the lad than the suit in the stand.

Fair play to you Marcus

And the suits in the stands will fight tooth and nail to prevent even the smallest of tax increases.

As well as his work with the food charity FareShare he's a very impressive young man.

"Rashford, who has raised £20m to boost food distribution with the charity FareShare, has admitted to using food banks and receiving free meals as a child"

"I don't claim to have the education of an MP in parliament, but I do have a social education. I am clued up on the difference a U-turn decision would make on the 1.3 million vulnerable children across the UK who are registered for free school meals because 10 years ago I was one of them."

His mum should be very proud :nworthy:

I wonder how the extra cost of providing free meals for all school children would compare with the savings of doing away with any vetting process?

It’s a pretty hideous indictment on a supposed civilised (whatever that means) and wealthy country, that there are 4.5m children (14.2m people) living in poverty. 870k children go to bed hungry in the UK.

When I think of the lady's not for turning, in Boris's case he moves in a zig zag motion.

That's now u-turns on free school meals, surcharges for foreign NHS workers and migrants being given NPRF status being able to access benefits.

Where once he managed to tap into the popular opinion he seems to come up tone-deaf surprisingly often lately.

I think Boris needs some new SPADs, the current crop don't appear up to the job

Well he was 'outspun' by Gary Lineker FFS!!

'The former striker also said it was strange that there was such political disagreement over getting children fed.'

Quite rightly deserves all the praise he's now getting. If you read his letter it is brilliantly put together and perfectly pitched. I defy anybody to take issue with it. Johnson & his cronies knew they wouldn't have a leg to stand-on and to ignore it would have been even more sickening than their bloody minded belligerence about Doiminic Cummings. He was careful to avoid making it appear an overtly political attack giving wriggle room for the government to back down - which of course is eminently sensible. Top man - real class.
Smarter people than I have been total idiots - and I've met them all.

I’d rather have a government who will make a u-turn if they get it wrong, rather than one that knows they’ve got it wrong but continues ahead as they don’t want to admit their error.

I am not a Tory but I thought Ruth Davison was brilliant on the radio. She advised new MPs from Northern England to go banging on the whips door to say I don’t really want to rebel but this is rubbish. This is why the government changed their mind not because they discovered altruism or always meant to do it honest. Shame she doesn’t come back. We might have a decent leader then instead of Bozo the Clown
