OK, I start by hating this government, so I’m bound to be super-critical. However how can any fair minded person not be totally incredulous at Johnson’s award to his brother, a junior minister for a very brief period, with a lordship. And then a knighthood to Phillip May simply because he happened, by chance, to be married to the last PM. Rant over.
When a man is tired of Chudleigh, he’s tired of life.

And to Botham, purely because he supports the next disaster - Brexit.

Just normailty - the bias simply determined by who is in power. During the Blair/Brown era there were 173 Labour peerages awarded and 66 to the Tories.

Yes its cronyism but it always has been.

Don't forget Wilson putting his secretary into the Lords. It was always rumoured that She had written his resignation honours list for him.

Cronyism is one thing ...... but nepotism really does show contempt.

It's always worth remembering Tony Benn's 5 essential questions of democracy:-

"What power have you got?”

“Where did you get it from?”

“In whose interests do you use it?”

“To whom are you accountable?”

“How do we get rid of you?”
Smarter people than I have been total idiots - and I've met them all.

The argument against Prime Ministers being able to pack the Lords with personal and political mates was made forcefully in 2003 when Tony Blair announced plans to appoint more peers.

Blair's proposal was denounced as 'disgusting' by one critic who said: 'Think of the lunches; the hackery; the behind-the-scenes schmoozing and fixing; the quiet words from the Government Chief Whip; the winking, the nose-tapping, the soft belching in the Savoy Grill Room, or Glyndebourne, or Ascot.'

That critic was Boris Johnson :funny:

Hypocrisy on a Trumpian scale
Remember, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies!
