Former FBI chief said earlier there are things left unpublished by Mueller that would show Trump in a very, very bad way and he shouldn’t be pushing to have them brought up.
The honest answer is - nobody knows. Constitutional lawyers have been discussing this at length ever since the Mueller investigation began, but until - if - it happens, it'll be uncharted territory and may well end up in the lap of the Supreme Court. So that's alright then.
However, if - as speculated - Trump pardons his family, and then resigns to allow Pence to pardon him, then it would mean one unequivocal thing: that the Trumps have committed federal crimes. And the federal bit here is key, because he cannot be pardoned or protected against State level crimes. And Mueller made a point of passing any of these off to the appropriate authorities as soon as he became aware of them, partly to ensure they were investigated, but mainly because Trump couldn't stamp down if they fell outside the mandate of Mueller's investigation.
