Amidst all the debate about taking short cuts, plus dodgy commissions and favouritism on government PPE contracts, nobody’s mentioning that Boris Johnson has form here, and clearly gave a steer to his cabinet. As London Mayor he acted unlawfully in running up an unapproved £50 million bill for the garden bridge, which never happened, and several million on water cannons, for god knows what reason.
When a man is tired of Chudleigh, he’s tired of life.

This might not be wise - I've had few glasses and came on to read about our awful result today before migrating to this thread .....anyway here goes.... Rant alert!

Can anyone in their right minds defend this despicable, gutless, 'I-don't-give-sh1te-what-u-think' Prime Minister?

He defended Dominic Cummings for his utterly outrageous behaviour, his excuse sooo ludicrous as to be comic. Comic, that is, if it didn't make the whole country (understandably) conclude all the rules the government were trying to get the rest of us us to follow were complete b0ll0x.

Then another of his mates (long rumoured to be an oboxious bully) receives an official complaint ...so Boris does what he always does and kicks it into the long grass by having an inquiry (simultaneously declaring his support for the accused). Unfortunately for him the inquiry was genuine and the man conducting it honest & with integrity. The inquiry concluded Pritti Pattel was indeed guilty of bullying and broke ministerial conduct rules. Doh! He then tries to get him to 'tone it down'. He wouldn't - so Boris simply ignores it saying it's wrong so the author of the report resigns. It now emerges every attempt was made to block the inquiry and Boris has issued strict orders to "form a square around the Prittster".

F***ing disgrace!

But in reality that pales into insignificance compared to the incompetence of public money being dished out to his chums - a 'chumocracy' who received millions simply because they were 'mates-of-mates' of the Eton mafia running the country. Sure, Covid is/was an emergency - but that's not an excuse for "informal arrangements" where lucrative PPE contracts handed to companies with no obvious experience. Pest control and home & fashion accessory companies (who just happen to be big Conservstive party donors) are suddenly judged to be worthy. A national audit office report shows a company with a political referal were 10 times more likely to win a government contract.

Maybe we could stomach this cronyism, or rather (let's give it's proper name) this corruption - if it actually delivered. But no. We typically end up with sub standard useless crap that's late.

F***ing disgrace.

Rant over.

Very good rant Ave-it. I’m obviously going to agree with you, but what disturbs me most is the general acceptance we have slipped into of this behaviour, just as we take Trumps behaviour for granted now without raising an eyebrow. If just one of these things had occurred during the Callaghan, Thatcher, Blair, Brown or even more recent Cameron governments, the outcry would have been universal. Instead we just have a sort of resigned acceptance.

Could any of us imagine twenty years ago electing a Prime Minister who:

In his first job as a Brussels based journalist is fired for inventing stories.
Is implicated with a criminal, Darius Guppy, in an arrangement to beat up an investigative journalist.
Is fired from editorship of The Spectator for bonking staff, producing at least one illegitimate child.
Is fired as junior shadow minister under Michael Howard for lying over affairs with staff.
As Mayor of London wastes over £50 million on the Garden Bridge, and is implicated in dodgy public funding of an American Blonde, with whom he was having an affair. His claimed successes were simply completion of Ken Livingstone’s projects.
As Foreign Secretary is so loose lipped he doubles the prison sentence of our national in Iran, and is generally regarded as a joke at the FO.
As PM is prepared to break national and international law, plus his own ministerial conduct code, regardless of damage to the UK’s reputation.
When a man is tired of Chudleigh, he’s tired of life.
