The one thing that shocked me most about him was contained in a documentary on his life I watched last year. I was unaware of how big a celebrity he already was in the states at the time of his first divorce. The programme showed an interview at the time where the interviewer asked the cause of the divorce. Trump said “well, after our third child was born, I couldn’t possibly go to bed with a woman who had produced three children”.
This is a precise quote, and was said with no sense of irony, or jokiness of any kind; he really meant it.
As a father of three I found this truly shocking. To state publicly that his immediate sexual needs totally outweighed all other considerations normally associated with fatherhood, without the remotest twinge of a conscience, proved to me the real depths of his narcissism.
But to be fair to the fellow, one of those three children was Ivanka, and he's on record as saying that if she weren't his daughter perhaps he'd be dating her, that she's always been very voluptuous, that she has the best body, and "If I weren't happily married and, you know, her father..." so that kind of makes it all OK. I mean, if he was in an incestuous relationship with his daughter while still married to her mother, how creepy would that be?
