My daughter is doing her University dissertation on music in the 70s especially the Van Dike club in Plymouth and could use some info - any anecdotes, memories, pictures, thoughts etc.
If anyone can help can they get in touch through PASOTI.

Bloody hell! What are they teaching at Uni these days?

As for Van Dike club .... how long have you got?

Pink Floyd for 50p. Roy Harper having his plug pulled by the police (or did he make it up?). The famous bust and the subsequent local press reportage of that and the court appearances. Dave Swarbrick "losing" his fiddle and playing a viola which he smashed at the end of the gig (and then some while later coming back and telling us he had found it in the back of the van later). Liverpool Scene saying it was one of their favourite gigs (RIP Adrian). Hippie dancing down the street to ISB. "Out, demons, out!" from Edgar Broughton.

I'll stop there and try to contact you more coherently......

Good old Greg Van Dyke, may be RIP. I haven't got too many memories of fandangoes besides cheap ouzo, but I'm still casual friends with his son Lloyd if you desperately wish to be put in contact.

Not too many replies then Swendies!!?!! It wasn't the sort of place for 'memories'. I went there many times and, apart from the name of some of the bands, can't remember a damn thing about it! Well, apart from a smoky haze and always wondering afterwards how I got home.
Sorry!

Crikey, that takes me back, I'm having a second time round now buying the likes of Strawbs Cd's.

PS As for memories, I'm with Lousy Pint, although I'm glad I wasn't imagining the Guildhall concerts.

Strawbs... I admit not my favourite but did you see them when they had a black, female cellist playing with them? Sat centre stage and looked as fed-up as anything. Looked as if she had never smiled once in her life!

I have a terrible memory but this reminded me of seeing 10 cc in concert at the guildhall.

Have managed to find proof of this on google it was in 1974 and was organised through van dyke.

I can also remember covering my school books in the posters advertising the van dyke concerts.

I think it later became The Metro, but it was owned by GVD.Went to a few gigs there, there was a lot of trouble after a Sham 69 show one night involving some local lads and their skinhead following.Saw the Skids there[brilliant],Wreckess Eric, Wire,Undertones,Lene Lovich and a few others that i can't remember.Demolished now, housing on the site instead.
