I think that Trump is well on the way to being shown up as the incompetent ignoramus that so "many people" have long known him to be. His worshippers can surely hold out only so long if things get as bad as they're likely to, given the almost non-existent response over there thanks to Trump's terror of bad economic results damaging his reelection chances. (But at least it will give him a ready-made if totally bogus excuse if he does lose.)
Then again, I saw a clip only yesterday of a Trump fan who was convinced that it was all - yes - a hoax. And for why? Because she doesn't believe a word that the Democrats say. Sorry, dear, but viruses are strictly neutral politically, and Trumpworld spin won't slow it down - quite the opposite, in fact, because people like you will take no precautions.
Oh, I've just had an awful thought. What if the virus is still rampant, or has come back in force, by November? Voter suppression by conveniently closing polling stations predominantly in high Democrat-voting areas? Or, even worse, god forbid - a national state of emergency is declared, cancelling the election altogether and imposing martial law, which somehow remains in place long after the threat has passed?
Let's not pretend that things like that can't happen in Trump's America. If I've just thought of them then someone in the administration sure as hell got there before me. Depending on how things pan out, far from leading to Trump's downfall, the outbreak may yet be used to keep him in power in ways that we hadn't even imagined.
