Tell you what Potty, I think I worded that badly. What I meant to say is that I think it’s the role of BBC news and current affairs to seriously question the objectives and motivation of all our national institutions. Because the government of the day is the very largest of these, and leads the agenda, then of course they might appear to be under greater scrutiny, but I don’t think that automatically proves there is any bias by the BBC.
I’d rather have a bottle in front of me, than a frontal lobotomy.

Those on the far right are starting to turn on Donald.

Either that or it's a brilliant parody post. I mean, Trump must be a Democrat plant in the GOP to break the party because of his acting skills in his half-second cameo in Home Alone 2.

It goes without saying that Q him/her/itself is 100% definitely a scammer but the problem with all the others is that it's always been impossible to tell the brilliant parody from the genuinely moronic and profoundly deluded because they read exactly the same.

Whether or not that one is a parody, it does seem to be the way the crazysphere is now starting to think - because what have they got left otherwise? Their hugely elaborate house of cards came crashing down around their ears the moment Biden was sworn in.

This is where the actions of Josh Hawley, a fascist in a business suit, may yet pay off in the mid to long term. He - plus Cruz and many others, of course - remained "true to the cause", and not too many of those disillusioned crazies are just going to crawl quietly back under their stones.

I think its difficult to really prove such a thing as bias. I think this is an interesting article though which seems to point more in the direction of them being biased than not https://www.theweek.co.uk/100501/is-the-bbc-biased

Whoever are the government of the day are rightly held to account otherwise the state broadcaster is just a propaganda tool for whoever is in power.

Thr idea of whoever is in power should get an easy ride I find odd.

Did you approve of highly critical antisemitism documentaries?

Will you be happier now that Rishi Sunak's ex-boss - a merchant banker ...... stop tittering at the back ... is to be the BBC Chairman :funny:

Eminently qualified for a tv role and completely impartial - despite the 500k donation to the Conservative Party

So how do you draw that conclusion from the article when it says the opposite? Just curious like....

It is clear now there are not enough Republican senators to see this second impeachment through, if Biden has any chance of defusing tensions in the US he advises his party to drop it and concentrate on the real job in hand rather than waste precious time trying to prevent Trumps resurgence.

I feel this is a massive blow to the Democrats. They really fear the possibility of Trump running for office again and I can understand that. They are going to be under real pressure to deliver in the next four years because if they don't and the economy starts suffering and unemployment starts rising then get ready for the next blockbuster to fill your screens...MAGA2 - the return of Trump.

I think there’s an even bigger likelihood he will respond as he did the first impeachment, when he was able to hold a press conference and display the front page of the Washington Post with the headline ‘Trump acquitted’. Once again his supporters will see it as a triumph against the evil establishment, and with one bound he is free to continue campaigning for 2024.

The Senate Republicans have just signed the death warrant of what was once the United States of America. It's an open admission of what they've already known for a long time: that they'll never get back into power again by democratic means, hence these decades of utterly shameless gerrymandering and voter suppression that they've been getting away with as minority rulers, apartheid South Africa-style. It seems that's no longer enough, though: from now on they're also fully on the side of the armed mobs and they're not even going to pretend otherwise because they've made their political calculations.

The general background (and foreground) lawlessness in the country will now just keep getting worse and worse and worse. I hate to sound like a broken record, but this is exactly how Hitler, and numerous other dictators, came to power: deliberately foment massive social unrest and violence; create large classes of "other"; spread disinformation and propaganda on a monumental scale until the average citizen no longer knows what to believe, and tends to choose the worst interpretations and blame the "other"; cow your own politicians into near-total submission; then present yourself as the hard-man saviour.

It doesn't even have to be Trump Senior now that he's put in all those long hours of proto-autocrat spadework: you just need to look at all those odious little creeps jockeying for position to see how many would-be dictators there are in what still has the gall to call itself the Republican Party.

If the Democrats have any sense at all then they should make sure that during this term in office they change the voting system. I think that's the only way to keep the republicans out. The Republican resurgence has already started. Its like a huge tsunami thats just starting to grow and like all tsunamis, you can see it coming from miles away but you can't do anything to stop it.

You are right and Proportional Representation is the only way to avoid the polarisation of what is effectively, in this country as well as the US, the result of 'either or' two party politics. It is the only way for true democracy.

Sadly there won't be the time or will for this to happen in the States.

Exactly, I couldn't understand why they would want to impeach him with only a few days left in office and then give him the oxygen of publicity that he thrives on for the critical first few months of Biden's presidency, and now with the certainty that he will be acquitted. Biden needs to insist that they drop it, just let it hang ffs, rather than give the #### another victory.
