So the referendum has been called for 23rd June to vote to stay in or come out of the EU.

A straw poll on Pasoti just to gauge opinion. :)

Gove and Farage want out - it's obvious - in.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 23rd June date is changed.

There are already elections scheduled in Scotland, Wales and some areas of the UK on that day I believe.

Yeah, cos I doubt the PM would have known that...

Well never ever thought I would be voting for a Cameron proposal to remain in the European Union !
Its never the best deal on offer, but Cameron painted himself into a corner with his election manifesto promising a referendum to keep his back benchers quiet and to muffle the usual noises coming from Farage.
What really frightens me is the out brigade....Boris,Farage,Galloway,Goldsmith Ian Duncan Smith and co could you ever see that lot sharing a public platform ?

With over 100 Tory MPs expected to support the "leave" campaign, the EU vote will almost be a sideshow as the Government benches disagree between themselves.

Expecting plenty of political posturing over coming weeks especially from Boris.

If a leave vote results, will Cameron survive as PM?

No, I think his position would be undermined.

Have to say I'm one of the undecided and suspect there will me more in that position going to the ballot box than in any other vote in history.

Despite Camerons negotiated settlement - successful or otherwise - 'Remain' seems to be a vote for the status quo. On the day I think many people will vote for change without consideration of the facts at hand.

I agree with Frank: Cameron is banking his political legacy on being the PM who kept the UK in the EU - if it fails then I can't see how he could remain as PM. That being said, the same can be said for Bonkin' Boris: any ambitions he has for being leader of the Tories and a future PM will evaporate should the electorate decide to stay in the EU.

Early days but...

Britons unsure but more likely to vote to stay in

However, when given a straight choice between staying or going, 60 per cent thought Britain should stay in the union compared with 30 per cent who believed the country should “withdraw”, with 10 per cent undecided.

Two polls were released on Monday:

YouGov - Remain 37%, Leave 38% - Others 25%
ComRes - Remain 51%, Leave 39% - Others 10%

Big variance and a high % of unknowns = Lots of uncertainty.

I'm not convinced many people understand the issues - or indeed care to understand them.

It will be difficult to find cold hard facts one way or the other, in or out, over the next few months.
What people need is clear facts in layman's terms with no spin and scaremongering.

I'm certain that few understand.

My gut feeling is that this will follow a similar pattern to the Scottish Independence referendum and there will be a swing towards the status quo when people go to the ballot box. No matter what people say to the pollsters, the fear of the unknown will kick in when it really matters.
