Star Man: (David Munday is standing in for CE and hasn't listed a MOM and has several players on 6)

The lack of a named MoM seems a running theme this season, which is outside pasoti control.

Could a small rule tweak help in the event that more than one player receives the top rating?

Three points each if two tied and two each if more level?

I was talking to Chris Errington before the game yesterday and he should be back on duty soon. He said he avoids giving the same score to more than one player and if it does happen it's very very rare. The reason he's stopped stating his man of the match is because they now add text along each mark and he would be just repeating himself at the bottom of his report. Hopefully it won't be a problem.

I did ask this before but didn't get a full answer and was told that information is taken from the commentary but what are the rules for an assist?

Does a player earn an assist for winning a penalty?
Does a player earn an assist for winning a free kick that leads to a goal?
Can a player get an assist when an opponent scores an own goal?
Can more than one player get an assist for the same goal?
Does a deflection off of an opponent cancel out the assist?

If you look at the official stats from the Scunthorpe game, their first goal has not had any player credited with the assist. Would that have been so in the Fantasy Football rules had that been an Argyle goal?

When I started doing this I was told the assist went to the last Argyle player to touch the ball before the goalscorer. This was taken from the Herald report, if the herald had nothing the official site was checked. Though the Herald usually includes the name in thier report.

Penatly assist has been given in the past especially if the player was about to score. Some questioned this and it's never really been completly clear.
Don't think I've ever given one for winning a free kick.
Assist can be given for og's.
Deflections usually cancel assist, as the ball is now going somewhere different to where player was trying to pass.

Trouble with all these is there have never been any clear and fast rules. This was set up as a very simple game. I usually make the final decision but when assists are included in the stats posted on here people have a chance to comment if they think it completly wrong.

All these thinks could be looked at and given definitions of what is and what isn't but people have been happy with it up to now.

Just to add what Nick has said, if i manage to post the player ratings from the Herald, (Usually Keepitgreen beats me to it) and they have'nt given an assist on a Argyle goal, i will check the BBC and Sporting Life game reports and if a assist is given i will add it to the Herald player ratings, i have been doing this for many years and i cant think of a time someone has complained about it.

It must be because there's a trophy at stake now.

This is the first year I have joined in so was just looking for some clarification. Even the official assist stats are questionable at times but I guess they follow their own strict rules as to what is and what is not.

Of course you would have had to make your own arrangements in previous seasons but does anybody know why they don't publish official assist stats for League Two (and they still aren't for this season) yet they do for the PL, Championship and L1?
