Just back from the game between my local club, Hereford FC and a Cardiff City XI including Lee Camp, Lee Tomlin, Matthew Connolly, Anthony Pilkington and Omar Bogle.

Not a bad game, more even than you might expect, with Cardiff winning 3-0 with second half goals from Bogle, who did nothing else, Pilkington, probably the best player on the park and Rhys Healy, with pretty much the last kick of the game.

Hereford held their own, but didn’t offer much up front having lost Jimmy Oates to those in red and white up the A38. Also fun to see them apply the Lincoln/England ‘love train’ set piece that very nearly paid off. Lee Tomlin would probably have picked up two yellows in a competitive match, needlessly kicking the ball away and even more ridiculously starting a scuffle five minutes from time, ridiculous given the certainty of the result and the significance or other wise of the match.

Hereford FC are a phoenix club on the rise, with back to back promotions and play their first game at National League North level against Blyth Spartans next Saturday. They regularly got crowds of 4,000 last season and have the potential to be the next AFC Wimbledon. They need a new roof though, the one they have leaks. A lot.

All in all, I would certainly recommend a trip to Edgar Street for any exiled Greens in and around the area l.

Been there a few times, seen us win 5-1 lose 0-3 (a very wet night) and draw 1-1. Always a nicely hostile ground, if that makes sense.

Good to see them on the way back.
