In other changes approved by Ifab, substitutes will have to leave the pitch at the nearest goalline or touchline instead of walking to their technical area in a bid to stop time wasting.

That's an excellent change as well. Wycombe will struggle with this.

Thatā€™s a good idea. Will they have any bob to put on etc to make sure they arenā€™t mistaken for players on the pitch? I always thought an alternative was as soon as a players number is up, he becomes inactive and makes his way off the pitch at the nearest point upon which his replacement can enter the field.

I was thinking the same. Await first controversy when somebody is "played onside" by a player just subbed.

Good idea. Iā€™m sure Wycombe will find a way round it, perhaps by the number 17 feigning a hamstring pull on the centre spot while retying his bootlaces, then hopping all the way to the dugout before ā€˜realisingā€™ that the board is actually showing the number 11 rather than the number 17. Having collected a new set of contact lenses from the physio, the number 17 could then walk back towards the number 11 to tell him to make his own way to the bench via the centre spot and halfway line.
