All that’s wrong with Pro football - Gareth Bale

After what amounts to a turbulent 2-3 years at Real Madrid and the possibility that the next 2 years will see Bale improve his golf handicap rather than add to his football awards, does Bale have an ounce of empathy to the fans of a historic club or will he gladly suck up £62.5m in wages for doing absolutely nothing?

Why should he have empathy for them? The situation is not his making. They could always pay him up. Richest club in the world.

I've seen him play and there is a lot more wrong with pro football than Gareth Bale.
I don't believe that he is not one of the best 11 players in Madrid! :scarf:

Eh? It was their choice to sign him for £100m.
It was their choice to pay him as one of the highest paid players in the world.
It was their choice to gove him a long term contract.
It was their choice to appoint Zidane, who seems to have issues with Bale.
Bale is available to do his job, but RM, who signed him on a long contract with status as an elite player, have decided to make him look like he is taking the pee put of the club.
When he has been played, he largely stands out as a terrific player. His goals in the Champions League final, for example.
Is he honestly meant to tear up the kind of stardust contract that only a handful of other global sports stars have ever had the fortune to sign, just because Zinedine Zidane doesn't like him?

If he’s been offered more than a few chances to continue his career elsewhere than why wouldn’t he want to play.
There’s many players with less ability than Bale that would leave a club to get a chance to be on the pitch.

He’s happy to collect £62.5m rather than showcase his talent. Even allowing for a pay cut, there’s an awful lot less he can earn and still earn the 10s of millions he craves.

This has got nothing to do with his skills as a ball player. His team-mates hate him, the fans hate him, the manager hates him. The only person that liked him was Perez.

According to the usually reliable Guillem Balague, Gareth was willing to move to China but then the Real Madrid board changed their mind and decided that they didn't want to sell him for free after originally saying that they would:

It's fair that Gareth has never really helped himself by not integrating into Spanish culture or by socialising with his team mates. However, the Real Madrid board were the ones who gave him this crazy contract so they should be honouring it.

It appears that Gareth is happy enough showcasing his talent for Wales whilst sitting on the Real Madrid bench. Also, there was a similar situation with Steve McManaman a while ago at Real Madrid but he managed to fight his way back into the team, maybe Gareth can do the same.
