Jim McLean, long-term manager of Dundee Utd, and mentor of Luggy, has died.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50338260

McLean took Dundee United, historically the smaller of two not-very-big clubs in one of Scotland's major cities, to a European final and (along with Ferguson's Aberdeen) briefly enabled Scotland to have 4 clubs competing rather the usual 2.

The youthful face behind McLean's left shoulder in the lower picture of the BBC article should be familiar.

A true Dundee legend with good reason.

A proper old-fashion "sergeant-major" type of Manager from the pre-Bosman era and before the advent of Spivs masquerading as Agents, who the players were genuinely afraid of.

Happy days indeed.

A good football trivia question involving Dundee.

From which Scottish city other than Glasgow has 2 teams reached the European Cup Semi-finals?

Good question, Demport Dave - I'll remember that one.
Jim McLean's achievements were phenomenal, given the resources he had. He didn't suffer fools gladly, though, as a BBC reporter once found out to his cost.
Good article on BBC website about Dundee Utd's celebrations after winning the League and the vitally important job Mr Sturrock was assigned to!

(my first ever attempt at posting a link - hope it works!)
