I still think Liverpool will get 4th spot.

reckon you can get good odds on that - may be worth a bit of a flutter

I don't think I could be more underwhelmed about "the race for 4th". It just smacks of a Sky advertising campaign. In reality it's either "who is the worst of the 4 richest brands in football" or, "of the 17 mundane teams in the Premier League, who is the least mundane". Intoned by a gravel-voice announcer, I'd buy that.

But, essentially, the Emperor has no clothes. Let's not pretend otherwise.

Know what you mean. I think for me and maybe others it's just a desire to see a dismantling of the status quo where, at the start of the season, the names of the top 4 are decided with just their order unknown.

By making that first step of breaking the cartel, clubs like Villa, Spurs & Man City just might signal a return to the 'good ole days', which both you & I remember, when, for example, teams like Ipswich, Forest, Leeds, Newcastle, Blackburn and yes, even QPR, were actually in with a shout of the title.

Probably a forlorn hope but you never know. Man Utd & Liverpool's well publicised financial concerns, Fergie can't go on forever, Chelsea's ageing side etc, etc...

But that's just the point. What joy is there in Man City "breaking the cartel"? They're part of the problem. Some may say that Blackburn started it but not really. OK, they had Sutton and Shearer and Ripley (believe it or not), but they also had plodding journeymen like Mark Atkins and Robbie Slater.

There is no return to the old times. It's the end of history.

Looks like its only City now between Liverpool and the usual top 4 again.

Spurs and Villa both have to sell before they can buy so will probably slip away to 6th and 7th well off the pace.

It shows you need at least 300M to even challenge that top four dominance - same old same old despite all the hype.

Wouldn't be great if those teams kept dawdling and Everton overtook them all to get 4th.

Bit like the sketch on 'That Mitchell and Webb look'.

I am getting fed up of being told that it's the most exciting league for many years. Why?

Its the same 3 teams that are the only 3 that have won it for years miles clear of the rest. Manyoo could still finish 10 clear as normal.

The bottom 3 could soon be well adrift or at worst its 2 from 3 to join Pompey.

Some of the recent games have been dire as 'its the time of year to grind out results'.

By the last day the only thing of interest could be who's going to be 4th!

It's a league driven by fear - of not staying on the gravy train by either finishing in the top 4 or staying up - nothing else matters.

Well said. It's ludicrous that 4 teams can claim spots in a so-called champions (small 'c' intended) league.
