Cardiff - Haven't got winding up order thrown out and are going to make one last offer in court tomorrow.

Pompey - Talks between them and HMRC have broken down, and will try to get case adjourned tomorrow.

I have a feeling that Cardiff won't get out of this - the only reason they escaped the winding up order before Xmas was because they had agreed a repayment schedule with the HMRC - which they immediately defaulted on. There are only so many times a club can call the HMRC's bluff, and nobody really believes what Risdale says anymore.

Pompey - not so sure. They may get a stay of execution ... but then the HMRC may feel they need to make a point to other Premiership clubs.

I think football needs a 'big' team to get wound up. Maybe if someone like Portsmouth ceased to exist it might teach the rest of football to grow up and be responsible. Football can't carry on like this, not long term.

Sadly I agree with you, but I don't think Pompey are a big club, so the message will probably not get home. It is only when a Liverpool or someone of that status has severe problems will things possibly change.

Pompey may not be a "big club", but they are a Premiership club, and for one of those to fail would be a smack in the face for the Premier League. Wet Sham are next in line, by all accounts, and they are arguably a bigger name than Portsmouth.

The bottom line is that, financially, the professional game in this country is coming apart at the seams. It has been coming for some time, but I fully expect, in the next couple of seasons, for a professional team in the top 4 divisions to go out of business. People can hide their heads in the sands when the likes of Kings Lynn or (any day now) Chester fold, but people will have to take note when the "professional" clubs start to go under.

Cardiff City are living proof that as a football team you can live way beyond your means, lie consistently to fans and HMRC and still get away with it every time. Its a joke.

Assuming Portsmouth were wound up next week then there would be a points adjustment within the Prem, the players would also become available

What would happen to all the fantasy football games the people paid money for and who may have selected those players in their team.

They will be just as flipped over as West Ham( who would be adrift by 4 points at the bottom of the new Prem League table).

When they don't get promoted they'll run into troubles.... teams can only get away with it for so long.

Risdale strikes again.
