Steven Gerrard - England Captain

I don't see who the captain is as being particularly important. A player like Terry will still be doing all the same shouting etc. on the pitch regardless of whether he is wearing an armband or not.

The captain can't alter the formation or the starting line up, therefore I believe it is more of a ceremonial role.

I totally disagree, Gerrard was our best player in the first game and i think his poor performance against Algeria was more to do with being stuck on the left without receiving much of the ball. In my opinion Terry's form at this world cup hasn't been great either and the only one of our defenders remotely playing well is Ashley Cole.
