My first thought was that it seems conveniant that the Villa job has just cropped up ! he says hes retiring yet wants to be involved in football in the future ?

Bookies seem to be thinking the same, now at 10/1 next AV manager

Guy always seems on the edge in an interview and this is not the first time he's jumped ship - like someone said, we had a close call if he was ever on our radar!! Next stop the looney bin!!

Pretty harsh comments IMO. Couldn’t it be he simply expects people around him to keep their word and if they don’t and do things behind his back he resigns - as opposed to whinging and whining but still picking up a big salary and waiting to be paid off or jump into another job? Yes he walked from City in the past but who knows what went on there - not exactly renowned for their scruples are they? He stayed at Palace for a long time thru’ thick and thin and similarly stayed with Reading through promotion, a successful spell in the Premiership and a relegation then made it fairly clear he’d do all he could to get them back but if he failed (which he narrowly did) then he’d leave. I’m happy with Reid but would have been delighted to have had Coppell here.
Smarter people than I have been total idiots - and I've met them all.

The signing of David James never looked right and if Coppell's found that things are conducted behind his back he's doing the right thing by walking out.

See you next season then Turnips - unless we go up!
