This is also what i used to think, but a lot of thought is put into the fixture lists. There is a lot of criteria for them to pick through such as Bristol Rovers and Bristol City not being allowed to play at home on the same day (a number of cases are similar to this), to us asking for an away fixture as our pitch might not be ready. There are also cases where teams like Southend ask their home games are not on the same days as West Hams as they feel it affects their attendance. All explained here.
