Walters
Age: 26
Position: Winger/Striker
Cost: Ipswich - 150k (plus add ons)
Stats: 135 (30 goals)
Sold: Stoke - 3.25 million

Mackie
Age: 24
Position: Winger/Striker
Cost: Plymouth - 125k (plus add ons)
Stats: 89 (16 goals)
Sold: QPR - 500K

So tell me is Walters more than 6 times better than Mackie?
Either way you look at it either:
a) Mackie was bought on the cheap by everyone's friend Warnock.
b) Walters has been bought for an over-inflated price by everyone's friend Pulis.
c) Our board should have negotiated a far greater fee, considering the fact that QPR are very very rich.

Ironically Warnock made a bid for Walters, it was in the 3 million region (maybe more including add-ons) and that Walters opted for Premier League footie and a bigger wage. So Warnock's assessment must have been that he is 6 times better than Mackie? Bizarre considering the fact that Mackie 2 years younger. Ok so Walters goalscoring record and general performances have been slightly better than Mackie's over recent seasons... but 6 times?

We sold Mackie for a Plymouth League 1 price. We may have got closer to £1m if we were still in the Championship. Given our recent histories, Ipswich are a bigger club and therefore QPR/ Stoke would have to pay more to prize Walters away. Our top players in the Championship were earning under or around £10k, Ipwich's are probably on double that amount.

One relevant figure is how long was left on their contracts. Was this directly comparable?

One thing's for sure QPR got an absolute bargain.

I guess we took a gamble back in January - keeping him at the club to better our chances of Championship survival over getting a larger fee.

To be fair selling Mackie in the summer instead of January only lost us around 150k.

Maybe Walters contributes far more to the team than Mackie?

The figure we got for Mackie was pretty good really all he brought to the table was nonstop runnig with no end product, I would take a SEB over him anyday in terms of a striker, if they bang in 20 goals a season they can pretty much do what they like! Dont forget there will be add ons with Mackie's sale too though.
