This time at Blackburn!

This could be the only way we can get back to having a Premier League where a larger number of teams could win the league. Twenty teams all owned by mega rich people investing millions into the teams.

I almost wish it would happen and they would halt promotion/relegation into and out of the League, leaving the Championship as the highest level any other club could reach.

Be careful what you wish for! I've always thought that the Sky/PL was (intentionally) heading in that direction - much like the NFL in the States - with a European Super League not too much further down the line after that. No relegation or promotion, just the same corporate teams playing each other every season all owned by megarich tycoons who see clubs as nothing more than vehicles to make money thru TV and sponsorship. The fans? Nothing more than an afterthought. I heard a PL manager say last week that there are already 4 mini leagues within the Prem with only 4 or 5 teams with any chance of actually winning the League. If that's the case then what's the bleddy point other than to rake in the millions that come with being part of it?

It has already reached the point where you need a billionaire owner to stand any chance. Now you could have a billionaire owner and not even qualify for Europe and eventually be relegated with one. If you haven't got one you face losing by big margins when you play against one of them (Chelski scoring 21 goals in 3 games does not make for competitive or interesting football)

The next logical step is for no relegation as all the foreign owners could get together and make it happen. Without the chance of promotion the football league would suffer badly - what would be the point of trying to win the league? Wages have already spiralled to a ridiculous and obscene level due to these foreign owners inflating them.

Somehow the football authorities have got to try and stop it before it gets to a level where you need someone from outside football pumping in a billion pounds just for the club to survive (already on the cards at Liverpool). The Premier League should see the folly of what they have created and are encouraging and take a look at the Bundesleague with their well supported and competitive league with spending controlled.

Gartside wanted no relegation to the Football League, that plan is still on the back burner slowly simmering.

Aren't they supposed to be introducing this thing about clubs having to live within their means and not make big losses subsidised by owners. In other words the clubs expenses including wages have all to be met from their income not from an owner bailing them out all the time. I can't see how clubs with wage bills approaching £100M a year will ever do this but they are trying to enforce it.

It does seem a strange time to be putting £300M into Blackburn who will never be able to compete with their own generated income with gates of 20k most weeks.

I suppose he thinks there's capacity to expand. The sizeable asian community in Blackburn is literally on the doorstep of Ewood Park, but you wouldn't think that by looking at a typical Blackburn crowd.
