Stadium for Cornwall / Truro

Any news on this?

I note from the plans it will be 10k all-seater, shame as such an arena would be perfect for a big terrace or two.

Also, the associated 1,500 homes they intend to build as part of the 'stadium village'... is there going to be anything done to improve the transport network? The roads in Truro can barely cope as it is. Dread to think how the traffic will be with an extra 1,500 homes.

A road connecting TMS/Richard Lander to Playing Place would surely relieve a lot of pressure elsewhere.

Oh dear 35% affordable housing  More horrible white rendered shacks packed in like sardines. Cornwall Council to need to make sure Section 106 agreements are in place & robust.

I'm sure Ollie has some views on this

Stadium for who? Pirates who can barely muster 3000 four times a year?
Truro city who can pull in an average of about 300 despite playing at the highest level in their history?
Seems like a monumental waste of time and money.
Over the decades the only sport in Cornwall that needed better facilities but never got it was speedway.

I believe they are still looking for funding for the project.

I had thought Truro City had cooled off on the idea since their financial problems last year but apparently the firm that owns Truro are now in the process of selling Treyew Road to a firm that specialises in developming land for supermarkets under the new owners. There is an agreement in place to stop them just kicking Truro off the land before they've found a new home and the club's new owners have a good relationship with both the firm that owns the land and the potential developers apparently. One plan however is to move to the Stadium for Cornwall and another plan is to set up a ground alongside the supermarket in the surrounding area.

The stadium itself is still looking for funding of which Truro Colllege, the Pirates and the Inox Group (development firm I believe) are involved with after the Council's funding package was denied. The plan is to provide corporate facilities ala JB to ensure the stadium is a seven day a week earner. The 1,500 homes are where the Inox group are involved who plan to develop the "stadium village" over the next decade.

Not sure on transport, but with 1,500 new homes being built the main road from Threemilestone to Truro is already busy enough at rush hour even now. If you plonked a road between Lander and Playing Place you'd have to go across both the Cornish main line to Penzance and the train line to Falmouth whilst peeing off a few farmers in that area but I would expect its do-able. The only problem there is, the roundabout to get out of Playing Place is already a nightmare so adding yet more cars to that area will all but kill off our hopes of getting out of the village

Thanks for the info Ollie, stadium looks smart, though still disappointing it's going to be all-seater.

Good points re. connecting Playing Place to 'West Truro' - though shouldn't effect your ability to leave the village, you can still use the old Truro road plus the King Harry Ferry  ;)

Yea thanks for that Pafc

I agree, a little disapointing it would be nice if they could have a look into some form of modern terracing maybe in one of the two stands that won't include the corporate facilities. Maybe it's something Argyle's Trust could have discussed with the planners in line with their support for the safe standing petition, altough I believe the detailed plans went in last month so I'm not sure how much room their is for manover now.

The Pirates need the larger ground to be able to gain promotion, it will also centralise them and make them more accessible to the rest of
Cornwall, hopefully increasing their gates. Truro's average attendance is over 400, more than 3 of the teams in the top 10 of their league. The stadium would not just raise extra income for the clubs playing there, it would raise the profile of those teams within cornwall. Maybe some Argyle fans may even start going to City matches when they aren't at Argyle with these better facilities?

'Centralise' you mean franchise, the most vile word in sport. Pirates are from penzance and they have ample space for the 2000 or so who turn up. Truro are at the highest level They have ever been (or ever will) and despite 6 promotions in seven years still only pull as many as a busy pub and that's before the novelty has had the chance to wear off as it inevitably will. Also the signs are truro will be returning from where they came and just as rapid.
Back to 30 men and a dog.
10,000 seater! Do me a favour.

It's not merely about providing the capacity because as the previous poster wrote, there is space for their fans. However....the pirates need the new stadium as their current one does not meet the ground standards for the premier league. So without it, the pirates can never get promoted.

I feel a new stadium would have the same affect on the pirates as sandy park did to the exeter chiefs.

The key to it all is the funding, if that's in place then it will happen, albeit slowly given there are public sector partners.

I should imagine that much of the funding is coming from the housing developer, who essentially is going to fund a percentage of the stadium development in exchange for being able to build 1,500.

Thought the housing contruction industry was dead, but obviously must be a recovery going on?

Central location and existing fanbase should mean gates well above 3k for the rugby, and if Truro City can get themselves together they'll be acheiving upwards of 500 I would think (still only worth opening one stand for them though).

if its a stadium 'for cornwall' why is it assumed truro are a nailed on to move in? surely it should be for any Cornish side as is happening with the rugby ie Penazance Pirates. Truro fc will probably fall back into the peninsular when the full debt is realised as the chances are they'll be liquidated.

Pirates stadium in truro will never happen and here's why. IF Pirates were to gain promotion to the PL they would need a back up ground of PL standard within 30 miles,Brickfeilds is the nearest at about 60 miles so if its built anywhere in Cornwall it would have to be East of bodmin!
London welsh fell foul of this rule.
