I've been thinking about this situation for a long time now.

What can we/I do as fans to help the club.

PCC yesterday ruled out buying the ground back (for now).

Could we as Argyle fans generate enough interest from within the City to protest outside the Civic Centre? Peacefully mind but something to make Viv and her ilk stand up and realise that we DO CARE about PAFC?

Anyone up for it?

Now is the time for action, softly softly isn't working.

Maybe a Trust led demo outside the civic centre followed by a march to Home Park.

Problem is that only about 7 - 8000 people care enough to turn up and support Argyle through the turnstyles. Therefore I can't imagine that we'd get the kind of numbers(promotion party "we've only gone and done it" kind of numbers) required to make a real statement that could sway things at the council.

I'll be most willing to come along with a banner if it happens though!!

Whatever your political position, how can you blame the Council for not buying the ground?

These are tough times for all Councils - and buying a football ground would be at the low end of priorities. Who knows if the club could even pay the rent if they did buy it?

The council have cash reserves in excess of £100m they would only be getting a return of 1% on this, a return of 3-4% could be realised by renting the ground to us. They have just (with 50% funding) paid out £42m for the life centre and they could probably get the ground for £2.5m which is less than they paid sold it for. Can they afford not to? :)

It did cross my mind!!

It's not about the money. It is about PCC allowing Plymouth to become a backwater hole. The club is essential to the survival of the city and vice versa.

Come people lets take a stand. A march from HP to the Civic Centre and then a peacful protest. Maybe a vigil based on the death of our club equals the death of the city?

We won't convince them that through mere assertion or demonstration. It's too easy for them to dismiss us as naive football fans. We need evidence to go with the passion, the academic study that Peter Jones mentioned to justify the role of football in this town.

The thing I find surprising about this is that some of the Tories talk about this as though it were a pub on Mutley Plain in financial difficulties.

It's not. Argyle's a critical component of the city's offer.

Having a League club is a hygiene factor.

I also find the claim that "buying Home Park would mean higher council tax" very difficult to get my head around.

It wouldn't. The cash would come from reserves. There's £20m+ there, sitting on deposit.

Actually, letting the club go down would lead to higher council tax. Because it would damage the city's reputation (already scarred further by the withdrawal of the air link).

And therefore its ability to attract investment.

"Positively Plymouth"? I don't think so.

More like "Plymouth. Cut off from the mainstream".

If (when) the club goes into administration, the debate needs to be had again.

Hopefully, the partisan nature of yesterday's debate (the Tories were "whipped", apparently) will be replaced by a rather more collegiate, cross-party approach.

Because Argyle matters to everyone in and around the city, whether they have ever set foot in HP or not..

Peter would you be happy to be involved in something like this? I know Tudor Evans would. Are you able to provide the evidence of the clubs requirement to be in the city that Gareth mentions??

Could you point me in the right direction.

NOW is the time of action imho.

There is no point in protesting against PCC,it would be like shouting at a brick wall. PCC have made their decision and that is final on their part.
Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfils the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things.

If we could offer a show of force though it would at least make them realise that we have passion for the club.

I'm still a bit confused about this(I know it doesn't take much) but why do we expect the council to buy the ground now, it doesn't make any sense for them to buy it until the board has gone.
7 scumbags down and only 1 to go before we get our Argyle back!

Could the argument not be intellectualised in these kind of terms and form part of a petition?
