All initiatives to help the club are welcomed by me. I hope that if the unspeakable were to happen all Argyle supporting groups, trust, supporters clubs and taverners would be able to work together. From IJN's comments earlier that shouldn't be a problem but I'm sure someone will find one.

Good luck Taverners!

Having met members of the Green Taverners at the game yesterday I welcome this impressive initiative and their unsung support for the club.

I have signed up and donated and I hope many others will do the same. I look forward to working with them on behalf of the Trust for the benefit of the club and supporters.

Does this mean the Big Siciety is coming to Plymouth Argyle ?
I thought the Lions routine was passee these days... is the new resurgent club expecting turnstile operators to work for nothing while directors sup on their free fare ?

Amazing how some organisations get the thumbs up by some fans and some don't. Just sounds like competition for the Supporters' Trust to me, and probably intended so. Not for me.

What exactly is for you other than the 1970's?

Pete ... this whole idea is the 1970s. It's old hat and allows a few old blokes to dress up now and again. Youngsters don't bother with such stuff... and let's be honest here, it's not cool.

What "Lions routine" would that be then? "Allows a few old blokes to "dress up" now and again"?

Please, tell me more about Lions Jack. Sounds like a very interesting organisation to belong to.

Fill our hearts and minds with your superior knowledge Jack - you know you want to.

Back on thread, £299 for the Hartlepool trip? I'd have been on it like a shot!

Good on 'em.

Aside from that rant, I am not totally against charity, gawd knows I've done enough work for certain charities over the years, but I call a halt in my support with certain bodies. I had a pop at the Lions/Rotary diners model of charity because they are often stuffed full of local businesmen 'wanting to 'do good' while at the same time lobbying for lower personal taxes and cuts in public spending. Some of them are even still men only. No wonder the Rotary club have difficulty attracting members under 60 these days. That sort of model is old hat and old politics ... almost Victorian in it's philosophy ... just what Dave Cameron wants brought back, and now it seems, Peter Ridsdale. Funny how all these reuests have gone out from "staff" since he arrived.

However, this Argyle thing is a joke. How on earth they can market the idea of PAFC travel to matches as a charity is beyond belief.
It would even be understandable if we were a Supporters' Trust owned club, but we're not, we're owned by multi millionaires. Wake up some of you. They're not paying staff and they're asking the OAPs to pay for the upkeep of the pitch !! And now they have encouraged this . Have they no shame ?
To me I see the Green Taverners as nothing more than a glad-handing social opportunity that is little more than the rebranding of yet more corporate hospitality. Is that clear enough Andy S

In fairness he didnt say you were a charity, he wasstill having a go at Andy S and the underlying causes of social ills begat by the Lions and Rotary :)

He think of you as......"as nothing more than a glad-handing social opportunity that is little more than the rebranding of yet more corporate hospitality."

See? You caught him on a good day.
