A new Grandstand, incorporating a suitable hotel to meet the needs of the teams and supporters using the adjacent Life centre facilities, as well as visiting football fans may fit, some leisure facilities to replace those that the council are keen to demolish at the pavillions may fit, whatever it may be it seems that Mr Brent is a pretty good bet to carry it forward, add a known football man to the board, and maybe a popular former director with communication and marketing skills, and maybe representation from a "trusted" fan body and we could have something - if nothing else at least a club to support next season!

I suggested that bit last week in a thread somewhere here. Brent may be a "relunctant bidder" but he's clearly not stupid and he'll realise that there will be two keys to giving his plans the maximum chance of success. The first is to communicate the vision of the brand very effectively to the fans - for this he will need a brand marketing expert - and the second will be to demonstrate to fans that he is someone who can be trusted. He could do both of these things by hooking up with a well trusted former Director with expertise in brand marketing. If such a person exists ( ) I'd really be quite surprised if they weren't involved somehow.

With Ridsdale potentially also on board (??) that then leaves two places in his team of five but we've already read about Brent's links with Jason Collard (urban regeneration specialist so that's the property development part covered) and it seems likely that he'll be involved somehow. So who might the final spot go to? Personally I doubt it will be a fans representative - the part that is lacking is the alternative revenue generation aspect (food, events, etc).

If Brent takes over I'll be relieved and delighted that we've been saved, but pretty underwhelmed about the long-term future.

I like the look of your selection, but, think its flawed.

Ridsdale is bound to be in the set-up and, personally, I am not sure the "former Director" would fancy working with him.

Strategically though the shape and skills you propose seem very sensible.

Finally some positive and good news.

Lets hope it happens, as there isn't much hope if it doesn't.

I believe that Mr Brent's offer is good for Argyle. He is not promising the earth but we have chance to build within our means and grow the club based on a strong youth policy and fan base. I also agree with him about being wary of a rich benefactor, it makes the whole basis of the club too risky.

One further point, we have seen that a lot of people read these Boards. I do hope comments about prospective offers for the club are kept balanced and sensible.

I find it hard to equate 'balanced' and 'sensible' with keeping Ridsdale on as Chair or Chief Exec or both. I'd expect openness and transparency over his remuneration in that post.

Filling up James Brent's sails with the bluster of our support is one thing, but judging him solely on the basis of him not being the M7 or Heaney is a pretty low bar to set. We'll see.
