Oh yes he was - what's being printed in the press is very much his side of the story, which paints him in this 'I didn't really know what was going on, but I'm a good guy really' image.

There are any number of incidents over the years, as far back as the Jones and Foot days, not to mention Pulis and Holloway that will never see the light of day.

Never forget that whilst the meltdown happened under Gardner and Todd, who was in the background sniping away, undermining them for entirely his own ends. The whole collapse of the club from being play off contenders from the CCC to admin and league 2 was as a result of the policies he and his then colleagues put into place - policies that were based on greed and self interest and not for the football club.

Don't believe a word he says.

can you prove that as it is a very big accusation to lay at one persons feet

What is the situation with the Trust £330k? Presumably it's gone. Is there any investigation into how this happened?

"Argyle also held a fire-sale of players in January, offloading standout pair Craig Noone and Bradley Wright-Phillips but turning down an offer from Millwall to take out-of-favour centre-back Marcel Seip for free."

I found this little snippet intriguing. I wonder who turned this offer down?

However at least he has said sorry which is more than the rest of the motley crew have done.

Minor points all, but:

- I really don't like how he says "the revenue were looking to cause problems"
Bloody tax accountant. I'm sorry but "the revenue" were looking to get taxpayers' rightfully owed money. Turns out we needed a more artful dodger than Mr Stapleton to cheat the public purse in the end.

- Pointed comment about forward-selling of revenue streams, especially season-ticket income. Watch this space.

- And, amusingly (it might be corrected later but currently the article reads) "flying to Dubai to join his family in a five-staff hotel". Really not that luxurious after all then :-)

The word "sorry" only actually appears once:

"I am a fan of the club and I'm sorry things turned out like this."

The Japanese insisted on giving him £50k a year for some advice on PAYE and secretarial work. What could he do? - they insisted!

Aye, instead of waving buh-bye and clearing his wages from the list of things to pay, we keep him and rack up another debt?

Chancellor wrote: Its hardly an apology though is it. The reporter has said it is an apology but all Stapleton has said is "I'm sorry it has turned out like this".

Its a bit like a mass murderer saying its a shame that the people he killed are'nt alive still.

And I note Mr Stapleton is still pointing the finger at all and sundry and denying knowing the full scale of the mess despite being contracted to be paid £50k a year to look after things like that.

Stapleton admits in the article he knew there was no cash in March 2009 so they couldnt sack Sturrock. So how can he claim he didnt understand the gravity of the situation after that date? Its also rather illuminating that he refuses to blame the Japanese connection yet in the same article is pointing the finger at Synan for not keeping Kagami informed.

Its all very confusing as to why the man is doing this now.

Agree he doesn't really say sorry at all, all that article tells me is he's doing his best impression of Nero and his fiddle.

If only Todd and Gardener had been undermined. Sadly having given the New World the voting majority the old world effectively sealed the fate of the club. The NW had eyes for one thing only and it wasn't Argyle.

Anyone else getting the feeling that Stapelton is like a bad rash that won't go away?
