tigertony wrote: 1st - Thankyou Peter. In my hall of memories at Argyle you have a place - true gent and an honest manager. I'll always wonder what may have happened had you taken over with the club stable with cash. Oh well !! One lasting memory will be you discussing the England v Argentine game with the 'hand of god' goal. You said ''I was the only player that Maradona beat twice !! Gem

Well it seems as though you can't read or type fast enough to keep up with the news. What a freaking mess .. :banghead: :banghead: but

1. Sentiment – NO !! If Sir Alex resigned today and Man Utd brought in Bryan Robson out of sentiment – what would the fans do ???
2. January – NO. Far too late. It was now or never.
3. Morals – Nice if you can but not at the expense of the whole club and city.
OR
Is this Riddler doing his last bit before JB comes in (we hope) to ensure JB has to keep him ???

So to all the fans who are preaching the sentiment, moral and nice guy tags – will you be saying that on your way to Braintree next season.
PASTIE says - ''Yes, results and performances are awful, but what did we really expect?'' - Well more than 1 point

Finally – who ??
We need some breathing space where there is no space = short term if required in the Pulis model to ensure we stay up. Then deep breath and go again. Keane / Roeder. Not Not Not Not Not Hart. My outside bet - Colin Lee.

(I used the LMA site – so out of date its embarrasing)

GIven that we clearly started the season in no fit state to compete, I'd say 1 point is hardly a surprise.

Simply speaking, the wrong man went today.

THANK YOU! Peter Reid, despite all you've done for the club, it seems we never had the decency to give you a fighting chance to show us what you can do.

The hand you were dealt here was never a fair one, hamstrung by off field events and non payment of wages. No manager could work within such constraints. That you tried so hard and stayed long, without the slightest complaint, so long after many would have walked, is a testament to yourself, both as a manager and a man.

I am deeply ashamed of how you have been treated today. and though we knew things were not right, I expected a reciprocal reflection of loyalty from the club towards yourself, in short, I was certain you'd be backed and given a fair chance to turn this around once off field distractions were sorted and players payed. I DID NOT EXPECT THIS!!!

Whoever, has done this has betrayed the majority of fans who wanted you to stay. A recent poll on here indicated that was about 70%. If it looks like you are going, please walk away with your head held high in the knowledge few could have done better under these circumstances. You have not failed us, SADLY we have failed you.

Every turn I think it can't get worse and surprise surprise it does, a shocking decision by the Riddler and what next??? The Riddler is obviously an Excretia fan!

I think it's somewhat telling that there's not been a peep out of any of the players on Twitter today...

I am in the camp that Reid was a very honourable man, but, in hugely difficult circumstances just couldn't get the on field stuff right. Too much defensive fraility, too much switching of players (Larrieu, Cole & CB partners).

The club is about (hopefully) to make a fresh start, so perhaps a good time to get a new manager in (not Paul Hart though  ) and get some fresh ideas into our beleaguered squad.

:iagree:

...although time won't tell if Reid would have turned it around.

I'm just very sad as he joined us in good faith, had one hand tied behind his back almost immediately and for 2011 had both hands tied behind his back.

I always assumed his clock would start ticking once the takeover was done.
Whatever else happens, this is a shame.
Southampton (a) seems such a very, very long time ago.

Do you have any evidence to back up this statement?

Or is a manager who has lost the goodwill of his senior playing staff and gained a miserly 1 point from the last 27 available not reason enough for the sack in your world?
Pay him up and thank him JB.. Mr Reid will always be an Argyle Legend.

I also feel sorry for Peter.

The problem is that, irrespective of circumstances, the manager is supposed to get the best out of the players and win games. He has been dealt a duff hand, to put it mildly, but he also has to make the best of that hand. Most probably, there was some margin in there that he failed to successfully exploit.

In business, which this is, there is little room for sentiment. The problem that I have is that people further up the food chain have faired no better than Reid yet still take a fee and smugly look on.

Perhaps he may be better off by leaving. It may prove more honourable to be fired by Ridsdale than to leave of his own accord and be remembered as somebody who deserted a sinking ship . Only time will tell.

What I find most strange is "why now?" : at a time when a phoenix appears to be rising from the ashes, why make a change before a deal has been signed... unless a deal is that imminent and a new face is about to come to fruition on the strength of a deal. However, from a man who isn't really into football, why would he have somebody lined up. Unless, Brent isn't the favoured bid and somebody else, who has a footballing background, is. ..... now, where have I heard that before?

Realistically who is going to want the job knowing they cant sign anyone, we have a wafer thin squad, and chances are they wont get paid?

Come on guys we have had enough negativity in the last 2 years to last us a life time. Lets be positive and look to a brighter future. A new begining

Their are far too may half empty glasses on this site.

As Reid himself has said many times, PAFC is more important than any individual

How long was PR's contract? Presumably his compensation will be added to the football creditors total, resulting in more cost (although perhaps this was why he was pushed out now rather than in two weeks time - cheaper perhaps?).

Like others I find this decision absolutely disgusting.

I find it even more amazing that it was made by a guy who has no mandate to do this. FFS 10 months ago he was on walking holiday and now he is sacking PAFC managers ! I am happy to be proved wrong but Reid has put more into this club financially than Ridsdale !

I would like to say 'Thank You' to Peter Reid for everything he has done for the club during these times, it will not be forgotten.

To the people calling for his dismissal, some of them prominant Pasoti contributors who have yet to comment (just making sure they all have the same hymm sheet I guess), remember recent times and ' be carefull for what you wish for '.

A very sad day.

Reid will no doubt have his contract paid up or a settlement figure agreed, that's what usually happens.

I've no doubt Ridsdale will make sure Reid gets compensated for what he's put into the club.
