John Petrie wrote: Frankly the idea that pensioners are not thought of and are treated with contempt is utterly laughable. When was the last time that there was not a pensioners discount? There is a discount this season already, it may not be as much as previous years but it is still a far greater discount than that which has been given to students and military personnel. Just for clarity, there has been no discount for students or for those in the forces and there hasn't been for years.
This new move towards offering these discounts should be applauded not moaned about because seniors are not being given even more discount. If there are many pensioners who cannot afford to follow Argyle any more then it is an issue that is worth looking into again, but let's not forget that pensioners already receive discounted tickets and service personnel and students do not. I feel for anyone who is no longer able to afford to go to Argyle but let's not lose track of reality here.

No, let's not lose track of reality eh John?
The average Corporal in the Army/RAF, a Leading Rate in the RN is paid £31,000 per annum.
The average pensioner in the UK is paid...wait for this one - it's a real doozy...£5311 per annum.
Best not tell the pensioners to spend it all at once eh John.
Oh, and let's not lose track of reality here...shall we?

They've done their bit and that should be recognised.
John Petrie wrote: This always comes down to an argument over who deserves something more when really it should be about what makes sense for the club. A lot of students and military personnel will not come from the city and will not be Argyle fans, a lot of them will be football fans and may be able to be tempted to come and watch Argyle. It will be far harder to tempt these people with the price at £20 as they have no attachment to the club and League 2 football is mostly pretty poor fare. Students and military personnel are key parts to the make up of Plymouth and they could provide the club with much needed support and income, therefore it makes sense to attempt to lure them in and make them feel a part of our city and our club.
It is not all about affordability but about how to tempt a large group of people to come and watch Argyle and how Argyle engages with a large part of the Plymouth community, although as Chris has already mentioned he will bring up pensioners ticket prices again, and as has already been pointed out pensioners already receive a discount. When a discount already exists, one in line with most of our league, and Chris has said that he will raise the issue of getting further discount it all seems very petty that there is so much moaning about other groups being given a FIRST discount when a senior discount already exists.
As for contempt of pensioners, the Senior Greens seem to get representatives of the club to come and listen to their concerns and address them and there is a pensioners discount and has been for as long as I remember. Just for once can we stop the bleddy moaning and be happy that the club is going to try and reach out and market itself to key parts of the Plymouth community and that Chris has listened to your concerns and will try to address them. What more can be done without going back in time?
