I have always thought that the structure and make up of the Trust could be a bit 'tethered' by procedure and group dynamic, whereas a more independent role would mean that you could act in a more proactive way.
I admire what the Trust are doing, but that's why I turned down several requests to join the ISC, it just wasn't for me.
I also would hope that the Trust is not "tethered" by procedures. I think that sort of organisation is more about pedantry and control than getting a job done. But to imply that "group dynamics" can ever NOT be part of a group by definition is seriously mistaken.
I'm not sure what you mean by "a more independent role"? Surely, as representatives of the fans, the people on this board cannot be independent of the fans' wishes. If they are there purely as individuals without any membership of a group, without a mandate wouldn't "maverick" be a better term? In that case, that person would only want power without responsibility.
I'd be concerned if the members of this board are "selected" without some form of election. Part of my concern would be that inevitably they would be seen as being in the pocket of the club and ultimately their role would be diminished both for the club and for the fans. To put it another way, it would be a complete waste of time.
In my naivety, I had thought that the Trust would be a body that would represent all fans. In a sense it would be an umbrella group for all the constituent organisations. Sorry, I don't mean to suggest some kind of super-body that would subsume all the other bodies - that would be unreasonable and probably unworkable. But it would be a body that took soundings and attempted to carry this into their meetings with the club. If anyone felt that the Trust wasn't representing them then they would join a grouping &/or make representations as individuals. Isn't that how democracy works? And, I'm sorry TonyC, if you feel disenfranchised, isn't that also a choice you are making? If The Trust isn't for you then pasoti, being a conduit to express views, would provide an opportunity for your voice to be heard. And pasoti certainly would provide a powerful voice that The Trust would have to consider. As for the GTs - I had thought they were a fund-raising body who have had and continue to have an essential role in helping.
But maybe I am missing something?
