Surely this country is a better one for that?

You are having a laugh, aren't you? PC has focussed the nations attentions onto, often, petty situations while allowing the total indiscipline of British society to gnaw away unheeded. Britain is rotten to the core and, while the PC brigade interfere in everone's business, the vultures and parasites are having a feeding frenzy on a diet of crime, disorder, disrespect and greed.

I wouldn't consider a fight against discrimination, whether it be gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, etc petty. Or are you saying that the country should be only be run by white, middle-class married, Christian men?

I think the country is run, mostly, by white, middle-class, married, Christian men.
My point is firstly that, I think, there are more important things than discrimination to be worrying about and secondly that I don't think the country is better than it was, far worse even.

That might me the most satirical thing you've said on here. Claim legal aid? With the cuts the government has made? You'll be lucky.

It does highlight the imbalance in peoples minds about the different, perceived, levels of discrimination. The majority are, thankfully, offended by racism, but more tolerant of sexism, homophobia etc. Yet they should all be valued equally.

The B&B is a good point, would we have complained more and been less tolerant if, they had said "No ethnic minorities" or "No Blacks"?

On the flip side would we have noticed it, if they said no under 25's?

Looks like this debate is heading towards the same conclusion it always does, i.e. censored and not representative of the general consensus.

Personally I am a big believer in free speech, and by free it should be absolute. I believe that we are mainly middle of the road people who don't discriminate. The BNP might look like they have attracted a large following at a rally but in reality it is a very small amount of idiots. The rest of us will listen to what they are saying and say "what a load of rubbish". Stop them from saying their piece and I think it makes them look like downtrodden underdog's and then attractive to a wider audience.
Personally I would only curtail free speech when something is directed at an individual because it then becomes bullying. No easy answer.
I must be phsycic.

This, IMHO, is an example of political correctness at EU level.

Ignoring the pensions example and concentrating on the motor insurance premiums, there are perfectly good statistical/actuarial reasons why women pay less for motor insurance than their male age-equivalents, especially at the younger end of the scale.

Now, for the sake of "EU gender equality" women may have to pay the same premiums as men, even though they cause fewer accidents.

If the EU maintain any consistency at all then surely if sex is an equalising factor (as sexism is illegal isn't it?) then surely age should be an equalising factor also (as ageism is also - we are led to believe - illegal).

What is the point of using statistics/actuarial tables in the first place if you don't include them in the calculations.
