What were a Canadian songsmith who gave her daughter a proper job of a name and an Irish Home Park hero one shy of a goal scoring landmark doing in Frogmore Avenue, Eggbuckland?

The title suggests this is connected with the 1970s, so should be right
up my street, but I'm getting nowhere. The only female Canadian singers
I can think of from that era are Joni Mitchell, Anne Murray, and the
McGarrigle sisters. Am I getting even slightly warm ?

Joni Mitchell should get you there, Gary S!
It's my sort of music era too - saw the McGarrigle Sisters live at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon. They were great!

A bit of Googling reveals that Joni Mitchell had a daughter called Kelly which is, of course, a name with plenty of Cornish associations. But the 1970s are before my time as far as Argyle os concerned so I can’t get any further.

The Doctor is right about the daughter but the Argyle link will become clearer when the rest of the answer unfolds.

And very apt, it being the 50th anniversary of a timeless classic on Tuesday. :nworthy:
