Brandon Barker?

We need someone on the left (tick), this lad is with Lowes mate (tick) had a bad injury (tick) probable England youth connections with Dewsnip (tick) and seems happy travelling anywhere judging by his loan record (tick).

Nailed on I reckon.

If I was to stick a pin in the list for a rangers player on loan I would go for Joe Aribo. Signed from Charlton in 2019 but not broken into first team. Something like 15 appearances. Central midfield.

Absolutely no chance. Heā€™s played 90+ games in two years. Probably a Ā£7m + player.

So how many players more do we reckon we need to sign?

I am still very concerned about the wing backs areas. The crossing from wide positions, apart from C Grant at times, was pretty abysmal. Iā€™d like to see a player who can whip in a decent corner and free kick. That could be G Cooper but lm not convinced he can hold down a place at LWB so if we play 3-1-4-2 not sure where he fits in a Lowe team.

I noticed a lot of these players are signing for two years. I am wondering if next season is about building a more stable platform. Finish comfortable mid-table as a minimum and then the season after with most players already contracted we add the three or four quality players for that extra push.

To repeat myself from this or another thread, we still only have Michael Cooper and no cover.

A couple of potential 'number 4's' that I like the look of are Louis Reed that was at Peterborough or liam Walsh that was at Bristol City, although I'm sure both have plenty of clubs after them

Certainly need goalkeeping cover. With covid bubble restrictions easing only 1 though. Cover for rwb or a rwb. Cover for lwb. Defensive midfielder. Cover for central mid. Different option up front. 6?

Iā€™m a bit surprised we havenā€™t had any more announcements yet, seeing as pre-season is due to start. I do recall Lowe saying heā€™d like most of his squad in place before we return (tomorrow isnā€™t it?). A bit over ambitious maybe.

Yep it is a worry as he did indeed say that. I hope we donā€™t hear the nasty scraping sound of the bottom of the barrel.

Do you think C Grant at LWB will be our starter in that position for the opening match of the season?

I do think we need better quality in the central areas of midfield to complement Camara.

For all we know signings could have been made & they will all be revealed over the next couple of days coinciding with the start of pre season training

Just because the last couple of days have been no news regarding the signings of players doesnt mean nothing is going on- i rather we get player recruitment spot on then just panic & sign numerous squad fillers just to make up the numbers

Given the slow paced, laborious and often wildly inaccurate nature of this thread my mind wandered to other types of football transfers. The sorts you used to rub with a pen onto a book to create football action scenes (or I recall aircraft, or war ships or any number of action transfer sets). What happened to the action transfer sets of the 70s? When did people decide they werenā€™t fun any more? Thatā€™s the big question, surely.

My, I must be bored

Be careful not to stray off topic, you may upset the lurking train spotters.

7, I reckon. We can't go into the season with 3 centre backs, and only Tomlinson as cover, if we're still playing 3 at the back.
And I would definitely like to see specialist attacking wing-backs brought in, with Edwards and Grant available for midfield slots.
A dominant, physical presence in DM and AM.
And at least 1 striker with a proven scoring record in League 1.

Can i ask how you suggest we pay for your shopping list- SH has said he will not play folly with the clubs finances. RL has a budget that has been set by the board that he has to work with

We cannot compete with the likes of Ipswich, Sunderland, Bolton, Wigan who appear to be on a mission to buy there way out of League 1- Sunderland have been doing it for years & are still in League 1

It is not our money to spend & we have to trust the management team recruit in a savvy, clever way to get the most for the budget they have

We have 3 strikers why would we need another one- i dont think RL for 1 minute will go & sign players for the sake of it - he will think what do i have what do i need to be competitive - he will not want to sign squad fillers who will take wages that could be used elsewhere & just sit on a bench or not play - you only have to look at Reeves & MacLeod last season

We also have our youngsters coming through

The transfer window has always been a competition - who can sign the perceived best players, who throws money at it & gets nowhere , who are being steady eddies & building every season

I am certainly not jealous of the signings other league 1 teams are doing it is there choice- but no amount of spending silly sums of money guarantees success

Agree in general. As I said on another thread: "I think we still need 6 or 7 more, namely a backup keeper, another centre back, a dedicated right wing-back, a holding midfielder and a target man. We could possibly do with an extra centre mid and a left wing-back, but we are well covered in those areas."

My son rates Amadeus Sogaard LB at Bromma. Iā€™ve long been surprised we donā€™t look at your local top tier for recruitment.

Part of the reason for squad filling last year was the ability to bring players into a bubble and therefore we needed higher than normal squad fillers.

However we have shed:
McCormick
Ruddy
Sawyer
The kid from Liverpool
Aimson
Opoku
Watts
Woods
Reeves
Fornah
MacLeod
Moore
Lolos

I've probably missed someone. Some of the loanees will not be wholly our budget but I still reckon 6 to add to the 3 definitely signed already (new loanees may account for 1 or 2 of those needed). Plus maybe Randell, Law and Tomlinson getting more first team appearances. I wouldn't expect that requirement to blow Lowe's budget.
