We were tight & compact, we allowed Liverpool to have the ball in-front of us and because we were calm and didn't over commit ourselves to winning it back we didn't leave any gaps or allow any space in behind, sometimes having the ball against a team like Liverpool isn't actually the best thing, it leaves you open to mistakes, misplaced passes etc, the game plane was quite rightly all about discipline and shape. Great defensive performance, don't let Steve McMannaman get in your head, if a PL team go and do that at Anfield it's a masterclass, but if a league 2 team do it then it's unambitious, odd logic.

To be fair premier league teams play the first team, we played the youth team.

Joe Gomez has gone on to play for England, Origi up front was a full Belgium international with goals in the World Cup qualifiers, Trent Alexander Arnold started at Old Trafford the week after he played Argyle, Woodburn has played and scored for Wales, Emre Can is a German international, Lucas is a Brazilian international, Karius is the current Liverpool goalkeeper and former Germany U21 international.
Not so much a youth team was it? We played Chelsea's U23 team and hadn't heard of any of them. Same with Manchester City's youth team.
Those sides also never had the luxury of bringing on Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and Roberto Firminho when things weren't going their way. Two starting England internationals and the Brazil number 9.
A clean sheet at Anfield against that talent was a fantastic achievement. We were hardly outplayed in the replay either. To say we played a youth team is bizarre. Some of our players (Purrington, Smith, Tanner, Garita) were the same age as the opposition 'kids' but without the international caps on their mantelpieces.
