1) Paul Paton in on the bench in place of Ryan Law the only change for Argyle from the Fleetwood line up. Flurries of snow made the pre-match wait extremely cold. The first 15 minutes Argyle had the best of it with the usual slow build up giving us control. From then on it was awful.

2) A free-kick on the edge of our area was given. It wasn't a free-kick but it was given. Rovers scored easily. Matthews looked out of position to me but I'd like to see the replay. Matthew made another blunder but got away with it when he kicked against the on rushing forward.

3) Rovers began to dominate and it was against the run of play that Carey's short corner, passed back to him by Threlkeld and headed home by Ness have Argyle the equaliser. It lasted only moments though as Songo'o failed to hold off in the box and Rovers retook the lead.

4) Songo'o and Matthews had shockers and it would have been no surprise to see ATS replace Songo'o at half-time. Further forward we get Lameiras or Carey on the ball and when we did they took too long to deliver. Ness and Fox were the pick of the first 45 with Threlkeld and Vyner also doing well.

5) Poor refereeing performance matched by Argyle who were booed off at half-time. It looked like the referee hadn't swapped sides at half-time when he awarded a soft penalty to Argyle when Makasi went down under a challenge. A nervous looking Lameiras took the penalty but it was easily saved.

6) Moments later high we had the equaliser. Ness and Sawyer combined and Ness' scored his second. Matthews repeated his mistake of the first 45 and his time gained a yellow card for fouling the forward. At the other end Rovers' got their first yellow for a foul on Carey then seconds later the same player made a deliberate handball but the ref bottled the red card.

7) The game was well poised wig both teams creating chances. Ness had a couple of half-time chances and a Carey free-kick hit the wall. Corners came and went and went with one fortunately headed straight at Matthews. Argyle won a couple of corners in return. Songo'o was fouled and the ref awarded the second penalty. This time it was Carey and for the first in 4 we scored it.

8 ) Into injury time and Reuben Lameiras replaced by ATS as Admas looked to kill the game. Moments and a Rovers miss later. Paton replaced Makasi. Carey and Taylor chased everything as the game wound down. Songo'o made a couple of telling headers to make up he early mistakes.

9) A game of two halves. Argyle poor in the first half and by the same measure good in the aexond. Makasi and Carey looked especially fired up after half-time. A good game if you like mistakes and drama. As it was it was a great result for Argyle who looked hopeless at half-time.

So many heart in mouth moments. Lows andhighs. Penalties. Penalty misses. Comedy keeping. 5 goals. Adams on pitch at the end waving at the Rovers fans. That was tough on the nerves. What a game. Going for a lie down ....

Lie down? Try several pints instead. It soothes the nerves faster.

Anybody else notice Derek Adams leaving the pitch waving at the Bristol Rovers fans? What a man!

Some loonies in block 18 today- I thought Burberry and stone island had gone long ago!

Special mention to Makesi who was the difference in the second half. Looked mean and suddenly found an engine. A lean Toums in the making.

Rovers were poor in the defensive third. Needless fouls for the pens and not great at set pieces. We gifted 2 goals and they still couldn’t win. Songoo, we know he can be effective but today he was terrible first half and then stuck to Non league style basics reminding me of Richard Logan under Warnock but it “got the job done”. Vyner did well considering his partner.

Midfield stepped up and took over in second half. Well done Ness who was my MotM. Encouraging

He’s a kind man, thinking of their long, cold snowy journey back to their hovel.

I think a fortunate 3 points against a very good side I thought. They harried us and forced us into mistakes. To come away with three points is a massive shot in the arm

Heart. Determination. Character.

That’s what won us today’s game.

We were poor first half. Lacklustre. Rovers pressed us and we continued to make mistakes

Never have l witnessed Matthews as nervous with his kicking as he was today. Was he carrying an injury? He looked unsure numerous times when kicking the ball. Numerous times the Rovers no9 managed to block the kicks from Matthews. He started to lose confidence then in some of his decision making when sweeping behind our back four.

Songo’o is just unpredictable. He makes mistakes. Serious “school-boy” errors. Yet at the same time he makes vital goal bound blocks as he did with a shot in the 2nd half heading for the corner. He let players get in behind him but his desire to get back is never in doubt. The problem being the challenges can look clumsey. Today he got a few fortunate decisions. Other days Argyle would/will be punish by those mistakes. Yet he gives 100%. He is committed and trying his best and sometimes you have to respect that.

The first half Rovers didn’t look anything special but they were very hard working and pressed us into giving them chances in which they took the lead. Argyle just didn’t have the energy to compete in midfield. This is something I’ve said before. Argyle need to eventually bring more pace into the side. They need more attack minded full backs and in the centre of the park they need more pace and energy to compliment the good things they currently have.

Second half we came out of the blocks like hungry wolves hunting down its prey. Very noticeable because Makasi was a much improved player. First half he waltz around the pitch at a one pace not really influencing the game. Second half , although he still wasn’t great, he at least made more runs and seemingly put in more effort. It was his run that caused the foul for our first penalty.

So after recent misses Lameiras was on penalty duty. However, like Carey’s couple of misses before it was at a great height for the gk. Seemed like it wasn’t to be our day.

Then a Ness thunderbolt. What a strike. (edited : after just seen it on tv, actually a fortunate goal but he does like shot at goal and can hit a ball :scarf: ) If he can stay injury free this player is gonna become a crowd favourite. They key is whether he can stay fit.

The rest of the game ebbed and flowed. Rovers had a wonderful chance inside the 12 yard box and centre of goal from a corner. I thought from the strike that he swept it home. Luckily the player fluffed his lines and Argyle were off the hook.

Then came the strangest moment of the game. Second penalty to Argyle for what seemed an assault on Songo’o in the box. Very strange to commit that type of challenge but we will take it all day if it keeps giving us the winner. From this moment on the final stages seemed frantic. Argyle couldn’t clear the ball. Rovers had a few goalmouth scrambles. One shot on the half volley wide. We survived.

What a great game. Not for its quality but for the sheer drama.
