Could Fox play as a Sweeper?

An old fashioned position l haven’t seen used since the days of Glen Hoddle at Swindon Town.

However, having just seen the highlights l know we didn’t score, but some of the defending is woeful and l just don’t understand how we let ourselves be so exposed again, just like at Charlton. Long straight balls up the field left our CB’s so isolated. There were at least a couple of moments in the game where suddenly Bradley, who isn’t the quickest, was exposed one on one.

The full backs are both bombing up the pitch because they are needed to create the width in the 4321 formation. Sawyer and Fox dont have the legs to push up the pitch and get back. I’ve seen them exposed serveral times on the counter. Especially when a team has fast attackers of the like of Taylor and Harrison.

Fox is the person though, that when on the ball makes Argyle tick. Having him play deeper allows him to dictate the play, whilst giving Bradley and Vyner some support when the full backs aren’t around. He doesn’t have to worry about supporting his midfield partners and Argyle could get someone with more pace and energy in there.
