Another professional away performance from Argyle.

Forest Green Rovers 0 Argyle 1

By Finley Allen

It was good to see Argyle build on their away form and gather momentum that began in the cup at Bolton last week. This win followed a similar pattern to the game up North as it was Argyle’s professionalism, rather than swift attacking play, that got them the win. In a game of very few clear cut chances Argyle seized the initiative with a well worked short corner on 24 minutes as the ball was laid off to Sarcevic who cut inside, and whose shot then took a deflection on its way towards the top corner of the net.

From the on, Argyle used their game management, which has been improving over recent weeks, to see out the game, grabbing a vital three points which sent confidence rippling through the 1200 strong Green Army and the players. Celebrations at the final whistle showed how important this win could be to the season as a whole, as Argyle knocked league two’s top placed team off their perch. It is worth noting the importance of The Green Army, in the latter stage of the game who made up close to a third of the crowd, willing our team onto a significant victory. As previously mentioned this was another good team performance from Argyle, who now look like a team who can defend a lead with confidence. A far cry form the last league game where Argyle shipped four goals.

Notable performances for me were from Josh Grant in centre defensive midfield, who once again carried on his strong display that started at Bolton. Josh has gone from an out of favour centre back who looked to be on his way back to Chelsea in January, to a crucial part of the team, one that Argyle will want to keep and extend his stay his stay in the city. Another player that impressed was Alex Palmer, who made a couple of smart saves, whilst marshalling his box well, to ensure Argyle brought home all three points. In the dying minutes of the game Forest Green had sustained pressure, resulting in two goal mouth scrambles, never really troubling Alex Palmer as Argyle’s defence just about stood firm. This made for a nervy end to the match but signified a team who has confidence in their own ability to go to even table topping sides in the division and get a result. This is something that had been lacking since the six month run under Derek Adams two seasons ago. Argyle really looks like a team whose camaraderie is building as we approach the busy Christmas period where seasons are often defined. My man of the match is Josh Grant with an overall team performance of 8/10.

I thought Scott Wootton played well also.
