I can't find it now but a few weeks ago there was a mention on Pasoti that GoS does not contain abandoned games, although it did have the abandoned League Cup match with Aston Villa in 1960. That was true, because the Argyle record books include this game, and they were the early source for what eventually became GoS-DB. This shouldn't be of course - it was an abandoned game which shouldn't count, just as other abandoned game don't count. However, it set me thinking!

So I've now loaded all the postponed and abandoned games since 1945 that I could find - 102 of them, including Villa - in a non-stats-counting way, and they appear in the Decades-Seasons-Matches displays on the Match pages, and also on the Opposition pages. By the way, if you know of any that I've missed, please let me know.

But that's not all. I've also discovered a Southern League first team competition, the Southern Charity Cup, that the record books don't include and hence have not been on GoS - until now. All 12 games that Argyle were involved in have been loaded, which has a significant impact on the records for the players concerned, and even more so on GoS's match milestones ever since.

Interesting stuff Steve, can't believe the Charity Cup never came up before! Where did you find out about it?

I can't seem to read all of the Whats New pop-up, I can only get as far as;

'the five players who made their Argyle debut on the opening day of the 2014-15 season shared the'

Is that just me?

Trev, are there no sliders to scroll down? Is that on a desktop, tablet or phone? And could you email a screenshot of how it looks for you?

And Pedro91, why use this thread for that? And why not be a little bit more constructive?

Forget what I just said, Trev. Is it any better now? The last word should be 'possible.'

It was Roger Walters who first found out about the Southern Charity Cup, and he provided some helpful info which I built on with some newspaper digging. It looks like it was the Southern League equivalent of the Football League (EFL) Cup, but it was limited in the number of clubs that took part.

I'll post here tomorrow with a list of all 12 games that Argyle played.

It's a pity that whoever writes the captions can't get the surname of our ex player and manager of Mansfield right!!!!!

Pathetic!

Sorry for the delay Steve. It's still the same for me on the laptop - screenshot emailed. No problem on the phone, but the box just ends on the laptop, about five lines of text short, with no slider.

And of course it started with Roger!

I made a change that should have provided more space, so I'm puzzled, Trev. Have you refreshed the page? If you've read it on your phone, I guess it's not so urgent, but it'd be good to solve it. Does anyone else have the problem?

And I said I'd list the 12 Southern Charity Cup games. Here they are:

1909-10 R1 29/9/09 Argyle 0-1 Exeter
1910-11 R1 7/9/10 Argyle 1-2 Swindon
1911-12 R1 4/10/11 Argyle 2-0 Bristol R.
1911-12 R2 18/10/11 Exeter 0-0 Argyle
1911-12 R2R 13/12/11 Argyle 2-1 Exeter
1911-12 SF 27/3/12 Argyle 1-2 Coventry (after extra time)
1912-13 R1 13/11/12 Exeter 2-0 Argyle
1913-14 R1 15/10/13 Bristol R. 3-1 Argyle
1914-15 R1 28/10/14 Argyle 1-1 Bristol R.
1914-15 R1R 2/12/14 Bristol R. 0-3 Argyle
1914-15 R2 10/2/15 Argyle 1-0 Exeter
1914-15 SF Bye (Norwich and QPR withdraw after not being able to find a date for their round 2 match)
1914-15 Final 19/4/15 Luton 0-0 Argyle (both teams were awarded a medal and the trophy was shared)
